under_score are very proud to present a special Meanwhile Sounds label showcase with Bovill and Murmur. A major force in the recent renaissance of deep and dubby techno, Manchester's Meanwhile has remained an essential UK presence in a scene dominated by European labels. As label owners, Bovill and Murmur have released tracks by Sven Weisemann, Quantec, Bvdub, Remote_ and Mohlao, as well as their own deep, echo drenched productions.
Bovill (aka Robert Lawrence) has been involved in electronic music for well over a decade. In the mid nineties, a love of Detroit techno, Chicago house, electro and the the deeper sounds of Berlin lead him to play slots at some of Londons most celebrated techno parties, including Analogue City, Absolute, and Electric Underground, where the headliners included the likes of Rob Hood, Claude Young and Juan Atkins. Expect a DJ set which combines the cool blue motor city groove of Carl Craig with the dub meat of Berlin's Basic Channel.
Murmur (aka David Togher and Graeme White) live by the undercover anonymity that once typified the world of electronic music. No clear photos exist of them so all we have to go on is their music; a deadly dub techno concoction that stands among some of the finest modern examples of the genre. Playing a hybrid live/dj set (as recently featured in their Resident Advisor podcast), Murmur bring a refreshing and innovative take on this classic sound to the dancefloor.
In support we have some of Bristol's finest house and techno DJs; under_score's Luke Malcher, Jim Petherwick and Placid spinning some of the hottest electronic sounds around.
