SCOT NICOLSON, DISCO NOIR
Good day to you all. Since the last party back in December at the Cosmic Ballroom in Newcastle (where the Wighnomy Brothers topped off an excellent night) change has been afoot at Disco Noir HQ. We've applied an all-round lick of paint, turned the garage into a pool, had the windows storm proofed and gone is the battered old couch... we've also invested in a second home, in the big old smoke of London. Adventurously we've set up home south of the river (didn't your mother tell you never to venture there?). Our new abode? Its pretty much THE place to be right now, hidden away at the back of the (in)famous Fire night club in Vauxhall is one gem of a club, the walls and ceiling of its main space smattered with over 15,000 separate LED lights; washing around the space and massaging your head as the monstrous sound system re-jigs your innards, ladies and kind sirs.... welcome to THE LIGHTBOX.
Fitting then that this forward thinking venue set in its edgy location should play host to Disco Noir. The debut night boasts a line-up to to rival any.

She is a classically trained pianist turned electronica diva, offering a funky-sexy blend of minimal house and techno, a little bit dirty and a lot danceable. A rising star on the producing scene, her tracks have been played and charted by many of the worlds top DJs, and she is the co-founder of one of America’s leading labels for her genre, Clink Recordings, which features the work of artists like Tim Xavier, Tony Rohr, Afternoon Coffee Boys, Elon, Insideout and Alexi Delano.
Touring across the globe with her label and for solo performances, Camea can be found rocking underground clubs to crowds numbering in the thousands. She is recognized for performing a delectable combination of mind-body techno and house music, and she plays everything from peak, driving sets to minimal and ethereal afterhours sessions. Whether she is performing in a dark nightclub or an open-air event, Camea turns out ambitious and devoted crowds, and she has headlined the stage with many talented artists such as Magda, Matt Dear, Guido Schneider, Marco Carola and many more.
Nowadays Camea resides in Berlin, where she works closely with the other Clink artists at their studio and offices in Kreuzberg. Aside from her releases on her imprint, she has remixed on labels such as Minus, Stylerockets, Einmaleins, Ransom Note, and Sunset Diskos. With all of the devotion and hard work that has brought her from the small Seattle underground to the International stage of electronic music, it is no doubt that she has earned herself a spot as one of America’s leading ladies of her genre.

He is the always smiling activist and the newcomer regarding innovative, electronic music of munich, his hometown. some years ago, listening to crazy music at the legendary “green room” at ultraschall we all got dizzy. he brings this unsettled style nowadays to the mainfloors, always in his own style. playing live or spinning records or cd´s, dario is acting with the crowd. he black out the bass for minutes, effects the rhythm into other dimensions until the people totally looses control, and then bomb the floor again. things really happen with the youngster when he is behind the decks! it all starts when michael jackson haunted this ears. then he got on his mother´s and neighbourhoods nervs with all kind of underground hip hop. later his father, a professional audio engineer, introduced him into music programming, and this new creative tools got all the "alda's" brain attention. stagnation isn´t a word for super – dario. techno music straightens his passion the implementation and experimention out of his spirit. later, the stock5 crew got him a residency at harry klein (munich) in 2005, and his “experiments” were truly respected. in early 2006 he starts with his first own releases and remixes on the labels balkon (frankfurt), rum records (geneva), esperanza (madrid), soma (glasgow), stock5 (munich) and telegraph (paris). in 2008 ‘the’ youngin became ‘our’ youngin joining the hallowed ranks of the vakant crew with dario’s split personality ‘sam und er/womde!’ ep (va019). dario’s thick kink finds a natural home here on he vakant deep freak out bus bumping and bouncing the club kids wherever they need to go.

For the last few years, everything has been falling into place for Matt Tolfrey. He quickly stepped up from playing at local bars to holding down residencies at The Bomb and Stealth in Nottingham, two of the country's most respected underground clubs. More recently he also started his own night named Leftout at the TBar in London, which has now been successfully running for two years. He's played at some of the best clubs in the UK, notably regularly slots at London superclub Fabric, and worldwide he's guested everywhere from Ibiza, and Berlin, via USA and Australia. As well as all this, he runs four of his own labels named Leftroom, Leftroom Limited, Leftout (www.leftroom.com), and Is This (www.isthisalabel.com). He has also collaborated with MarcAshken, Craig Sylvester, Inxec and B-Pole on releases and remixes.
So how did he come so far so quickly? The answer is simple. Matt is a workaholic with a seemingly tireless dedication to forging his own unique style. Drawing on everything from deep house and techno, through to stripped down bleeps and Germanic mayhem, he's spawned his own hybrid strain of electronic funk. Anyone lucky enough to have already witnessed Matt in action will know that his particular brand of wobbly house and techno has the power to win hearts and destroy minds on the dance floor.
THE AMALGAMATION OF SOUNDZ
Jean-Claude Thompson and Mark Harbottle met each other in 1990. But it wasnt until 1995 that they bought a Roland W30, that their musical alignment was cemented, and they started working together under the name The Amalgamation Of Soundz (TAOS). Since then they have rightfully earned their place amongst the most respected producers in the London underground scene, and they have deejayed all over the planet. They may be mostly known for their residency in London superclub, Fabric, but these boyz have rocked the best underground clubs from Los Angeles to Thailand and they are regular guests in Portugal, Prague, Greece and Turkey, including taking Glastonbury 2005 by storm with their headling set on Saturday night in the Dance village.
To fully unveil their musical talent one has to explore their productions. In fact TAOS are not claiming to do anything that different. "My grandfather always used to say, Jean-Claude vividly narrates, "that you can give the same tube of red paint to a group of artists, but it's what they do with it, that's important!. It is their multicultural background, their bringing up to jazz music and their musicality, that give their dance music a unique edge.
"We're interested in the music conveying an emotion, telling a story, the orchestration, the beat is the last thing we're concerned with. But for those who were fortunate enough to listen to these guys, blasting Fabrics Room 3, and who are familiar with the crisp, ear catching, head nodding, hip swaying beat of their tech house sound, this comment might just sound as an understatement.
They have released plenty 12 on several labels including Compost, Filter, Airtight, Ubiquity, Moving Shadow, and Earth Project. But its not all about 12. They had made quite an impression with their first two albums entitled The Amalgamation Of Soundz Part I and Part II. Ambient sounds floating above soft drum & bass patterns and hypnotic orchestrations a downtempo nirvana!
Their compilations A Room with a View and the follow-up A room with a view too for X-treme Records, were the means of propagating their musical tastes across Europe. Both instalments are an exceptional mix of modern leftfield tracks blended with some rare jazz classics, and reflect the diversity of the TAOS boyz.
The first moment of wide acclaim from press and DJs came with Enchant me (1999) which was included in numerous compilations, including Café del Mars 20th Anniversary compilation and received a classic status since. Another crossover moment for TAOS was the Compost release Alone (2001), a track that can easily please many people's tastes - uplifting beats, subtle harmony, melodic Spanish guitar, and captivating vocals. It was included in Jon Sa Trinchas, Ibiza classic compilation, Salinas Sessions, and recently in the classy compilation Everyday a Story by Klik records. TAOS have never felt the need to be attached to the dance scene in any shape or form. Their latest compilation, Fabric ..12, inspired by their DJ sets in Fabric, is a living proof of the unique, uncompromising, TAOS philosophy in music: Music should be free from rules and boundaries. HMV describes the TAOS Fabric sets as voyages of discovery with four hands on decks that explore the ocean of generic nametags and expand the notion of nightclub soundtracks.
