Metropolis & Beatdown
24.05.09
Leeds O2 Academy
Scratch Perverts, Andy C, DJ Yoda, Benga, The Count & Sinden
The 24th May sees top class Northern Drum’n’Bass peddlers, Metropolis team up with Beatdown to bring you an immense line up set to blow Leeds’ 2300 capacity O2 Academy to pieces. With an unfaltering ability to sell out every event they put on, Metropolis regularly deliver the biggest names and biggest beats around to their dedicated following. And with Scratch Perverts, Andy C, DJ Yoda, Benga and Sinden all tearing chunks out of the Academy’s sound system tonight… There’s no question they’ve produced the goods again.
The Scratch Perverts are now beyond world famous thanks to their countless awards and accolades from every angle and their two World DMC Team titles! Regularly filling and thrilling venues everywhere around the globe, their skills behind the decks are the stuff of legend, and are able to get even the most reluctant clubber jungling.
Andy C could well be described as the Godfather of Drum’n’Bass after being crowned Best DJ for the 10th year in a row, as well as being by far the highest ranking Drum’n’Bass DJ in DJ Mag’s much revered DJ top 100 DJ list. With one of the biggest labels in the business under his name, as well as his non-stop global touring and countless releases and remixes, there’s not a Drum’n’Bass fan around that hasn’t heard of him and it’s impossible not to be amazed by his skill, achievements, and relentless, bass heavy beats.
DJ Yoda is more than just a DJ. His sets are more like sensory feasts, pulling in Hip Hop, Breaks, Drum’n’Bass and Electro, via any other genre available and linked to mind bending, jaw dropping, and frankly unmatchable visuals that pull a crowd in like a moth to a flame. All before he slams out the rowdiest, verging on disgusting bass with the kind of force reserved for nuclear warheads and formula one. We dare you to try and stand still for even two minutes… And also to keep a straight face when he chucks in some of his much loved comedy edge.
Bring a grimier flavour to the Dubstep sound, Benga has carved a name for himself as one of the more unique artists in his field. His releases never fail to cause stirs within the scene and massive waves on the dance floor. His energy behind the decks is plainly apparent and renowned party antics a definite.
With sets that incorporate everything from Funk to Hip Hop, and Electro and to RnB, via everything in between, The Count & Sinden are fast becoming the names on everyone’s lips. With a bi-monthly residency at Fabric with his night, Get Familiar, and following remixes of massive stars such as Jesse Rose and Dave ‘Switch’ Taylor, Sinden alone is flying high. And with The Count, aka Herve, also riding a wave of unfaultable success, the duo together could well take over the world…
Arguably the best line up your going to find in the city in May, you’ll be kicking yourself if you miss the almighty clash of Metropolis and Beatdown
