FIERCE! NIGHT OUT
Meshell Ndegeocello is perhaps the flagship name in neo-soul, though her career spans genres ranging from hip-hop to fusion rock. Noted for her brilliant multi-instrumentalism, her music confronts spiritual and societal themes with an unparalleled audacity and sense of sprit. Many had their first exposure to her work through her numerous collaborators which include The Rolling Stones, John Mellencamp, DJ Premier and Melissa Etheridge. She will be joined by her invincible ensemble featuring Mark Kelly on bass, Jason Lindner on keyboards, Chris Bruce and Oren Bloedow on guitars, and Mark Guiliana on drums.
TOSHI REAGON & BIGLovely
In some ways, singer Toshi Reagon is a throwback to classic R & B artists, like Stevie Wonder or Prince, or old school rock group like Led Zeppelin; she can take any style, update it, and make it her own with incredible ease. Despite (or because of) her genre-bending, Toshi fits comfortably on a stage at Carnegie Hall, or in a dirty rock club. Toshi is an artist who’s known for energetic performances and a exemplary gift for writing engaging songs that provoke listeners to think and have fun at the same time.
DJ TIKKA MASALA
A purveyor of bastard pop, DJ Tikka Masala is a remixer for the post-modern, pro-queer age. Taking a cue from her Calcuttan roots and her hip-hop chops, Tikka Masala throws together mash-ups that betray her capabilities as a top-notch composer and arranger.
