Guru’s Jazzmatazz

Guru war der erste Hip Hop Künstler, der Anfang 1993 Hip Hop und Live Jazz miteinander verband. Damit begann er seine erfolgreiche Hip Hop/Jazz Serie, unter deren Titel Jazzmatazz vier beachtenswerte Veröffentlichungen erschienen sind.

Mit Jazzmatazz hatte Guru die Möglichkeit, mit den Größen des Jazz zu arbeiten: von Roy Ayers, Donald Byrd, Herbie Hancock, David Sanborn, Ramsey Lewis, Bob James, Ronny Jordan, Courtney Pine etc. über weltbekannte Sängerinnen wie Chaka Khan, Erykah Badu, Angie Stone, Jamiriquai, Caron Wheeler, Omar, Macy Gray etc. bis zu Hip Hop und Reggae Größen wie Common, Damian Marley und mit vielen anderen.

Guru war immer ein Innovator. So war es schon, als er die Gruppe GangStarr gründete. Und heute arbeitet der Hip Hopper erfolgreich mit New Yorks talentiertestem Produzenten Solar für ihr gemeinsames Label-Projekt 7 Grand Records.

Die aktuellen Veröffentlichungen von Guru und Solar - Guru's Jazzmatazz The Timebomb Back To The Future und Jazzmatazz Vol 4: The Hip Hop Jazz Messenger haben eine begeisterte neue Zuhörerschaft auf der ganzen Welt gefunden und durch Solars innovative und brillante musikalische Konzepte den Erfolg von Jazzmatazz neu belebt.

A flower is born: think Minnie meets Madlib in Cologne and you have a vague idea what Fleur Earth is about. And yes, she sings in German, so we fully understand if non-native speakers don't get it. But we have a supringsly high pre-order from our Australien distributor for her mini street album "Skurreal" and our friends from Wuzz blogged her video before we could asked for it. That's why we spread the word in English too...

A flower is born. Ihr Name ist Fleur Earth. Geboren in der ehemaligen DDR, aufgewachsen im Kongo und heute in Köln zu Hause beweist Fleur, dass Soul auf deutsch doch geht. Er muß nur "Skurreal" (so der Titel ihres im Spätsommer 08 erschienen Mini-Albums) sein. Vergiß Xavier Naidoos Bibelstunde und denk an Minnie Ripperton und Madlib. Mach Dich frei von dem was Rap und Poesie, aber auch Indierock und Soul normalerweise voneinander trennt. Dann bist du bereit für das Fleur Earth Experiment. Fleurs Texte klingen kryptisch und abstrakt, sind aber das Gegenteil von verkopft. Man muß sie fühlen um sie zu verstehen. Und wenn sie dabei Goethe als Inspiration heranzieht, ist das durchaus ernstgemeint.

Mit ihrer fünfköpfigen Band (aka das Experiment) hat sich Fleur Earth in den letzten zwei Jahren eine treue Anhängerschaft im Rheinland erspielt und ist Teil der neuen Kölner Schule, die von Huss & Hodn bis zu Melting Pot Music reicht. Bei MPM erschien denn auch im März das erste richtige FEX-Album "Soul des Cabots" – auf gut deutsch "Straßenkötersoul

Wie schon das erste GURU'S JAZZMATAZZ Projekt zeigte, gelingt Roy Ayers eine einzigartige Mischung verschiedener Musikstile. Fans von Acid Jazz, Funk, Electronica, House und Hip Hop bewundern, samplen und remixen seine Tracks auf der ganzen Welt. 50 cent, Mary J. Blige, The Roots, Madlib, Matthew Herbert, Basement Jaxx, ame/dixon/schwartz und Jazzanova sind nur einige der vielen, die Mr Ayers aktuell beeinflusst hat.

"Music of Many Colours" mit dem Nigerianischen Meister des Afrobeat, Fela Kuti, zeigt Roys globale Einflüsse in der Produktion. Ob von klassischem Jazz über elektronische "Tarzan"-Remixes, über Club-Hymnen wie "Running Away" und "Our Time is Coming" bis zu den Funk-Klassikern "The Freaky Deaky", "We Live in Brooklyn Baby" und "Can't You See Me" – und Roy Ayers feiert mit allen "Everybody love the Sunshine".

Roy integriert Ubiquity frei nach seinem Motto "Anything that sounds good". Mit seinen Worten: "Ich bin Musik gegenüber ganz offen. Ich liebe die Musik, die ich mir anhöre, und ich beschränke mich nicht auf irgend eine Form. Meine Musik kombiniert verschiedene Stile zu etwas neuem. Damit versuche ich das gesamte Spektrum abzudecken."

Guru was the first Hip Hop artist to actually blend Hip Hop with Live Jazz beginning in 1993 with his groundbreaking Hip Hop/Jazz series entitled Jazzmatazz of which he has released 4 acclaimed volumes.
