Amid the Irish bars peppering this East Side neighborhood, the bi-level Mantra 986—a Far East–oriented lounge—stands out. The décor stays minimalist, with varying effect: Downstairs, the Art Deco–inspired sconces and wallpaper blend nicely with the black lacquer-topped bar and white chairs. Meanwhile, the seating spaces at the back of the 1st level, which often play host to birthday parties and the like, are nicely furnished with low white couches.
