Line-up /Freddy Funk, Ricmetic, John Luna
- Freddy Montanez -aka- Freddy Funk ... Movim Recordings, N.R.K Recordings, Fabric/U.K.
As Chicago's best kept secret,Freddy comes derived from the future sound of 2nd generation, windy city pioneers, bringing Chi-town's minimal roots back to the birthplace of House music today.Originating his sense of,no-nonsense,style of deck manipulation,Freddy won his Chicago Northwest DJ Battle at age16,being crowned by local top dog's RICK GARCIA,and BAD BOY BILL.Since then Freddy's been on a musical rampage, leaving sights of destruction on powerhouse labels all over the country, from coast to coast.Whether it be,from New York's own Touche/Dot Dot Recordings where Freddy reached #4 on the billboard dance music charts.Or,as far west,as San Francisco's own premeire Grayhound Recordings, where he's teamed up with the Audio Soul Project camp in their classic Spirit Repair E.P. All and all,Freddy's efforts are sure to be seen on a rotational basis, where his beat freak mentality of yesterday...meets up with the true dub substance of today's hypnotic madness.
- John Luna
"First and foremost I am a DJ" explains John Luna. "I'm not producing records for a career or the money, but I do want to make my own version of sounds that will go down well and move dancefloors." John Luna officially started DJing in 1995 with the groundbreaking event promotional crew "Mushgroove" in Chicago, IL. In the years that followed he was spotted by numerous promoters and his skill and ambition payed off with literally hundreds of DJ bookings throughout the midwest's house / techno music circles.
In March 2003 after relocating to Kalamazoo, John started hosting weekly events under the BumpCafe DJ collective at numerous venues, the newest being "Shindig Sessions @ Sushiya". In a rewarding 4 year DJ residency at Kalamazoo's Taverna Ouzos, the realization surfaced that there was a following for various forms of electronic music at upperscale format venues right here in Kalamazoo! "House music is as popular as ever throughout the US and overseas, though smaller midwest market's like Kalamazoo are slower to catch on, being consistent has made all the difference. There are a lot of people involved in making a night good, I just do what I do."
