It’s that time of year again, so what better way to party than to have a remix style of dirty funk, dub, breaks and general mash-up brought to you by our host Eddy Temple-Morris. Straight out of the traps comes Hyper to perform live with their punk meets breaks sound supported by our favourite funk-fiends, The Loose Cannons. Barry Ashworth from the Dub Pistols takes to the decks with his twisted funky breaks and jump up dub set with The Loose Cannons rejoining the party later in the night. The date for your diaries is Friday 16th December!
Hyper aka Guy Hatfield, started with an early teenage fascination with Punk Rock and New Wave as well as Deep House, Electronica and Breakbeat. Having teamed up with studio legend Ronnie, Guy (Hyper) has released his singles for Timo Maas and remixes for the likes of Pink, BT, The Crystal Method and Mogwai to name a few. He has secured plays on Radio 1's Annie Mac, Zane Lowe, Annie Nightingale and Fergie shows. This year sees the completion of Guy & Ronnie’s debut artist album “We Control” which draws heavily on the Punk Rock background while pushing Electronic music forward. This album ducks and weaves between thrashy guitars, firing beats and melodic synths while tipping a nod to the 80's sound. But it is with this new album that the attention will be sure to turn towards Hyper. It is set for release in spring 2006.
Irrepressible young London funk-fiends cum superstars-in-the-making The Loose Cannons are both a pair of discerning DJs and an awesome 8-piece live extravaganza. With a new album already in the can set for release spring ’06. From stage diving to DJing upside down hanging from the scaffolding, to writing songs about getting mugged and the lonely isolation of modern urban life they are a talented duo. Live, they have smashed their way into the public’s affection at festivals over the past two summers including Glastonbury, V, Isle of Wight, Bestival, Reading, Leeds, Homelands and Oxegen. The Loose Cannons have (at their individual requests) supported Scissor Sisters, Goldie Lookin’ Chain and Princess Superstar. They have their own weekly Friday night radio show on London’s dance station KISS100.
Barry Ashworth is renowned for his jump up party DJ sets, but is better know as the founder of the Dub Pistols. He grew up with The Clash and dub which influenced the Dub Pistols sound and direction. Dub Pistols are punk, because punk, as an ethic, means anything goes. And it's that anything goes approach that typifies the band's their album, Six Million Ways To Live, an album where the blood-warm pulse of hip-hop, dub and ska receive a thorough seeing to via the needle-sharp miracle of modern technology. The Dub Pistols are currently working on their new album and are planning a live international tour later this year.
