The H-Foundation Experience
RA and Zoom Artist Management present Hipp-E and Halo's (H-Foundation) Australian Tour. Here to promote their Australian inspired ‘Destinations’ CD released exclusively through EQ the September explore will be one of the best international tours of 2002. The guys have always put on a great show when appearing in Australia and this time will be no different. RA spoke exclusively to Dave Wesson from Zoom artist management, who has being in contact with the guys and can confirm they are really looking forward to the tour. “Hipp-E and Halo love playing in Australia and along with spending some time in Byron Bay are really looking forward to the gigs throughout the country. It should be brilliant”.
Exclusive Interview
RA caught up with the guys in Byron Bay for an exclusive interview:
RA- How did the concept of mixing the Destination: Australia CD come about? Is it predominantly because you actually like coming to this country, or was it something to do with increasing the Australian people's awareness of the H-Foundation sound?
H-Foundation - WE LOVE AUSTRALIA!!! And it’s people. We have been so pleased with the level of awareness & appreciation people here have for house. We want to stay involved Down Under whenever we can.
RA- It looks like you were given a lot of freedom on the track selection judging by the artists and labels represented on the CD, there are also a few tracks from your own labels (Bluem & Nightshift). Would this CD best represent what Hipp-E & Halo are currently playing in their DJ sets ?
H-Foundation - It is fairly representative, yes. The only thing is that we are always throwing stuff together in the studio & then testing unfinished stuff out on the road, but yeah this stuff is still really current.
RA- Could you tell us a bit more about the tracks you featured from your own labels on the CD, when will they be released, or have the tracks been out previously?
H-Foundation - Yes, please go out now and buy twenty copies! Yeah, I think you can already get all of these. We oversee the selection & of course production on our own tracks but we have help with the actual running of the labels so sometimes we are a bit ahead of the releases.
RA- Was it difficult to compile and mix the CD in between touring and production work, as your schedule's and workload seem to be increasing by the day?
H-Foundaiton - Can we please not talk about that!! It was actually embarrassing how long it took, and by the time we had it done we were over half of the tracks. Since we are so into Australia we insisted on remixing the whole thing. We are so glad they were willing to wait for what we were really happy with.
RA- Music is obviously a passion for both of you. Aside from this, what are three favourite things that do it for you both?
Hipp-E - Sex, Video games, and my family which includes my Girl and my dogs.
Halo - My Girl, my dog, and interviews, yeah that is tops for me.
RA- And finally, what single word would you use to describe each other?
H-Foundaiton - Stoned (!!)
With a sound that is distinctly their own, their set is guaranteed to be unlike any other house djs you've heard. Add to this Hipp-E's sideline in A&R work for Tango Record's, and you know the boys will provide the freshest tunes. House H-Foundation style!

Destinations CD Info:
Australia has been chosen as one of H-Foundation’s favourite world destination spots, and with their pending tour down-under, the U.S. West Coast house superstar’s will be releasing a exclusive double CD mixed by Hipp-e and Halo on EQ Recordings. The CD will showcase the finest house artists, and labels, from around the world, along with un-released material, and some of the hottest tracks going around from the likes of Chris Lum, Lawn Chair Generals, Hakan Lidbo, Adult Only, Audio Soul Project, Tiefschwarz, and more. Expect to hear quality house music that will be enjoyed from Sydney to Soho, and experience H-Foundation at their finest.
With a DJ schedule that shows no sign of slowing down H-Foundation provide the perfect mix of deep house, and enough energy to make the floor sweat , Hipp-E and Halo have left audiences around the world craving for more. They have established strong followings at Fabric in London, Pacha in Buenos Aires, Portugal, and Istanbul. They have received rave reviews for their performances at massive events all around the world including the biggest festivals in Brazil, Germany, the UK, and the States, but remain highly respected in even the smallest and most respected clubs such as Sno Drift in San Francisco and Centro Fly in New York, both known for their scrutinizing booking policies. Together Hipp-E and Halo have broken through the barriers in house music that kept the elitist house heads and open minded music lovers everywhere and created a sound loved by all.
It is no wonder that a breakthrough duo like the Chemical Brothers chose these two masterminds to remix the title track for their latest Album ‘Come With Us’. The remix was a masterful reworking of a mainstream track that no honest DJ or dance music lover can deny is perfectly at home on the dace floor. Pete Tong has been a strong supporter of H-Foundation’s material for the last two years on his Essential mix for Radio 1, this remix is bringing their work to heavy rotation on radio stations even in the US where support for house music has been almost non-existent.
So what is next for the dynamic duo of West Coast House?? Well their full-length album for the much respected house aficionados at Soma Records is at the very top of that list, and the long awaited project should be completed at the end of this year. Both have also taken on the task of owning labels. Using their well trained ears to pick up on tracks from producers they encounter in their travels Halo will be releasing tracks on Bluem, while Hipp-E’s own amazing solo projects will be on his label Nightshift. Regardless of the project at hand, be it high profile performances, or their continuously evolving production, one thing is certain: H-Foundation is headed straight to the top of their field. Currently working in Australia’s Byron Bay Rocking Horse Studio’s on their first complete album they will break the barriers wide open for the masses that they have inspired, and to pursue their sound and remind us all that the originators are always one step ahead with the diverse and impressive style; H-Foundation Style
