Flash Brothers - Not just a Flash in the Pan
The Flash Brothers, Ilan, Ruven & Shmuel, are set to release the 2nd mix for Silver Planet Records, with ‘Fear of a Silver Planet 2’. It follows James Holden’s first mix for the label, and such is the high regard for the Israeli brothers, that Silver Planet felt it was necessary they mixed the 2nd addition. The last time the Flash lads appeared on RA was for the Producers Playpen, but many things have happened since then so the time was right to find out all the latest info on the three brothers, including info about this latest mix.
Well boys, it’s been a while since we last had a chat on RA. How has 2003 been for you in terms of the gigs and parties you have played at?
The year was very good for us in all terms actually - speaking of our gigs worldwide it was very smooth! We had great live + Shmuel's DJ shows on wicked events & clubs , as in Bristol / London in the UK, Turkey , Poland, Romania, our beloved Hungary, all over Israel.. The most unique event we’ve played at was in August on Jakarta City, in Indonesia (Asia). We headlined 10,000 people open air event there live + DJ on the massive main stage (Jakarta movement), with up for it crowd, great production, and very warm people too.
What original productions have you got out at the moment and coming up?
We’ve got now before Christmas first our biggest project this year out only in the UK (January worldwide) - our first worldwide released mix cd on Silverplanet recordings called 'flash bros. presents fear of a silver planet vol. 2’. It’s the follow up to James Holden's previous cd from 2001, features classics, current releases, forthcoming & unreleased yet as well.
Also now our 'Deep Love EP' on G-pal's Swift label is out, featuring 3 different types of tracks, plus the excellent g-pal remix of 'deep love'.
Shmuel's 'generate' on UK cp recordings label is also out before Christmas , with already opening exclusively Steve Lawler’s 'lights out' cd , and support from many DJ's as Tom Stephan remix on b-side is courtesy of Tigerhook on a bit more tougher / darker tip..
beginning of 2004 will bring also more new tracks of ours as the 2nd single on Distraekt , the 3rd single 'ways' on Silverplanet recordings to end the trilogy with great breaks remix by Chris Salt , Shmuel's anticipated single on UK Nascent recordings 'the other side of me' plus 'Saturn' on b side.. also on Canada's release records forthcoming our 'release time' single with Benz & MD remix , plus Shmuel's own 'Merc' with a funky electro house mix from j-groove from the subliminal records camp. Got some stuff coming up also in Italy, where lots of great music coming out of there & France this year.
Any remixes out now or soon?
Yes - Shmuel's got two 80's classic remixes he's been banging everywhere this year.
It’s forthcoming 2004 on Release records rr1000 who’s releasing remixes of artists to classic old songs from the past.. He revamped Eurhythmic’s "Who’s that Girl" on a housey tip with electric touch, and also E Zee Possee with 'Everything starts with an E' on a tougher techy electro tip.
We got our remix on the uplifting proggy / trance style released a few weeks ago on limbo records from Scotland, to their classic 93 release by Mukka called 'Neebro'. It features the original tune sample from an 80's Yazoo classic. Got also a hot remix we finished recently out in 2004 to Marscruiser's 'In Each Others Arms' on new UK label resonate, which blows away every dance floor we play it.
‘Fear of a Silver Planet 2’ is due out very soon. How was it like compiling a mix cd between the 3 of you?
It was great - not the first time we edited a mix together u know, but first time its released worldwide. We got in July from Silverplanet all the tracks to choose from, and we chose our favourites, including few classics (Mad Dogs - "Better Make Room”) that still sound updated, current releases (Indigo Child's 2 tracks), unreleased & future releases too (our 'Ways' tune). Silverplanet are a long time favourite label of ours, and it was great to compile the mix & show some of our musical taste as silver's excellent music from our point of view. So we chose the tracks together, decided order of tracks, worked on the mixes in our studio & Agnosia label studio in August, and finished it at the end quite good we suppose.
Do you see yourself releasing more mixed compilations in the future?
Yes - why not! We believe our musical taste is varied & fresh every time going forward. Also Shmuel has his unique DJ sets & personal productions, as he shows many times on his monthly radio show on basic beats radio online (www.basicbeats.net). Our first local album in Israel was mixed as well in 2000, so we experienced it before. Let’s see how this new one goes.
What producers especially have impressed you in 2003?
Gabriel & Dresden, Jacque le Cont, Agoria and Erick Prydz.
So where do you see the music heading in 2004 and beyond?
The music is going very well worldwide, and looks good for 2004.
Although the music business & its sales aren’t the best they were, the music keeps on being very good. Lots of fresh good music looks like coming out of Italy & France, which are well supported & respected by us. Expect some leading sounds & tunes coming out of there, as its always great to explore new territories for new music. Combination of 80's new wave, electro & punk, mixed together with house, techno, progressive & melodic vibe altogether creates really something new for 2004 which is our direction we go ahead. As we always believed, we go forward with our music as we aim to put out progressive electronic dance music.
