Moguai - not changing for no one
Moguai - not changing for no one

No stranger to the music scene, this DJ has been mixing up beats for over a decade and is quite adamant that he isn’t changing his tunes for anyone.

Moguai’s punk-like/electro-trance music style sent shivers throughout the dance scene with his explosive hit “U Know Y” back in 2002. Since then we’ve seen remixes released by this talented DJ of artists such as Planet Funk, Timo Maas and Fischerspooner. Each track has been considered as exceptional and inclusive of his trademark punk/rock sound. In 2003, Ministry of Sound released a double CD mixed by DJ Moguai in the influential “Headliners” series, selling 15,000 copies in Europe alone. This exceeded the figures set by Sister Bliss and Fergie from previous years. If that is not enough for this hectic dj, Moguai’s new single “Freaks” is set for release in Australia later this year.

Whatever your preference may be, Moguai promises to deliver a fresh mix of progressive house, techno-elektro tunes, big beat and breaks to cater for all audiences alike.

1. Germany will always be known for it's strong techno sounds whereas Australia is mainly a nation built on house and breaks. How different are you expecting the audience in Australia to be, and how differently do you gear your sets to accommodate the new listeners in a country you are visiting for the first time?

Well you can forget that, I dont change for nobody!! No i’m not being a stubborn German, my sound is very much a mix of prog. House, techno elektro, breaks – i play it there and i’m gonna play it here too!

2. What would best describe your style of music to be?

Moguai is progressive / tech-house – electro-rock`n`roll - but you cant really pin one label to it...unless its a new one. Its more of a mixture of those things, so long as its got groove and plenty of energy.

3. Who are your current musical influences?

I respect what The Neptunes have been up to production-wise. Very strong sounding records they’ve been working on.

4. What song are you listening to right now?

Some new material for Punx, we’re always on the lookout for Punx style tracks. And a white label Rennie Pilgrim gave me in Miami at the Breaksday party. Cant tell you who it is I’m afraid – it’s a white label!

5. In past events, you have worked along side hi profile dj's such as Tiesto and Paul van Dyk to name but a few. Who would you next like to mix it up with?

I was happy to see that I’ll be running into Planet Funk while I’m here, I like their stuff and they seemed more than happy with the remix I did for them last year so should be good.

6. My first introduction to your music was on Love Parade Week. Do you have any plans to be involved again with the parade or parties this year?

As far as i know, the electric kingdom posse are doing something again, whether i’ll be at the „siegessäule“ closing again i’m not sure yet. Thats for the commitee to decide in June! I’ll definitely be in Berlin to play a couple of gigs and be on one of the floats.

Moguai7. There has been a lot of criticism in the past involving the music industry and it's close link with the use of recreational drugs. With the release of the Australian movie," One Perfect Day", it highlighted these exact issues. What are your views on this? Do you believe it to be a misconception?

I havent seen the film, maybe I will get the chance while I’m in the country. You do not need drugs to enjoy club culture.

8. Do you have any rituals that you perform before your go on set?

I dont slaughter sheep or wear the same shirt every time but I do like to get a bit of sleep beforehand. Then a strong cup of coffee, get down to the club an hour early to soak up the atmosphere, drink some vodka redbull and the night can begin...

9. What can we expect from your "Get On" Tour?

A mix of progressive house, techno elektro, big beat and breaks. No two sets the same! Of course you’ll only find out if you come to all the shows!

10. Looking at your past collaborations, your style is quite unique. What can we expect from your new single "Freaks"?

Next step in the master plan! I just do what i enjoy and I enjoyed making „Freaks“ at least as much as „u know y“ or „get:on“..Freaks in the mornin, freaks in the evenin! Ist got one of those vocals you think you know, but you dont...or maybe you do.
