Elsewhere, several veterans will be in a celebratory mood. Cocoon and Space turn 15 and 25 respectively, while Tribal Sessions commemorates 20 years of Sankeys with an inaugural 20-week residency at Sankeys' Playa d'en Bossa branch. Booking a different calibre of underground artist (Recondite, Rødhåd, Marcel Fengler), and running for 12-hours weekly, the UK institution may leave a lasting impression. Over at Space, the team is gearing up for an even busier summer, with Carl Cox and Richie Hawtin playing more than ever before. The bigger news, though, is the union of Kehakuma and Elrow on Saturdays. Whether the odd couple sinks or swims is the question on everybody's lips. DJ-wise, the story of the season surrounds Loco Dice, or the lack thereof. In total contrast to his rampant schedule last year, the Desolat boss will play only two shows on the island this summer, taking over We Love... in August. If 2013 saw club owners, promoters and artists throw caution to the wind, then 2014 is the year Ibiza builds from its mistakes.
As we head into the season, RA will be documenting every aspect of life on the White Isle via our Ibiza Weekly column. Run alongside our comprehensive Ibiza clubbing guide, there will be no better place to get your island fix.
Celebrating 15 years on the island, Cocoon is looking to make this an extra-special season.
Cocoon at Amnesia
Ibiza's techno torchbearer celebrates its 15th anniversary this year. As ever, the new season has brought with it changes, most notably Ricardo Villalobos playing three dates—a significantly lesser role than usual. Occupying the void is Luciano, whose new Origins venture means Cadenza-tinged takeovers on eight occasions across the summer. Eats Everything returns after an encouraging debut in 2013, as do Richie Hawtin, Dubfire, Dixon, Adam Beyer and Berghain pair Marcel Dettmann and Ben Klock. Sven Väth, meanwhile, prepares for his busiest summer in recent history, with 14 appearances planned.
Circoloco at DC-10
After all these years, what's left to say about the island's most iconic outfit? The lack of a theme suggests a more stripped-back ethos, relying on nothing but the music and DC-10's world-famous vibe. Judging by the lineup for the opening party, the season will pan out as usual, blending an all-star cast of residents (Kerri Chandler, Dan Ghenacia, Cassy, Davide Squillace) with plenty of crowd favourites (Chez Damier, Jackmaster, Black Coffee) and the occasional well-timed curveball.
Ibiza Rocks House @ Pacha
In celebration of their 20th birthday, Ibiza Rocks founders Andy and Dawn McKay have teamed up with Pacha's Urgell family to bring a heavy dose of classic house to Monday nights. Channelling the colourful, free-spirited atmosphere of their Ibiza Rocks House parties at Pikes Hotel, the likes of Basement Jaxx, 2ManyDJs, Groove Armada, Kenny Dope and Derrick Carter will all play their part in the feel-good festivities.
Blasé Boys Club @ Sankeys
In what appears to be a wise tactical move, Sankeys will limit their Monday night offering to eight weeks this summer. The man in charge is UK house favourite Duke Dumont, whose label showcases will see him spin alongside a selection of handpicked guests.
Café Olé @ Space
Expect the usual gay-friendly flamboyance from this Space staple, soundtracked by upfront house and electro.
David Guetta @ Ushuaia
The French popstar flies solo on his return to Playa d'en Bossa.
A firm favourite with the heads, Enzo Siragusa and co. gear up for their longest summer yet.
Together @ Amnesia
With chart-topping duo Chase & Status locked in for a weekly residency, you can imagine the kind of in-your-face sounds on offer at Together in 2014. Skrillex, DJ EZ, Andy C, Sub Focus, Netsky and Rudimental will all bring the noise, while Eats Everything, Heidi and George FitzGerald may stay south of 130 BPM.
Defected In The House @ Booom!
The highlight in an otherwise turbulent first year for Booom!, Defected returns for round two at the portside superclub. Switching from Saturday to Tuesday will free up Defected's weekends away from the island, but coming up against Carl Cox, Fuse, Diynamic and Crèche won't be easy. In addition to the residents and regulars, Kenny Dope, Guti, FCL, Dennis Ferrer, MK and Nic Fanciulli will all drop by.
Water Party 80s & 90s @ Es Paradis
Prepare to get soaked while dancing like a loon to chart rock, pop and more.
Crèche @ Gatecrasher Ibiza
The East London outfit attempts to bring an underground flavour to San Antonio this season. The lineups will consist largely of house artists (No Artificial Colours, Huxley, Tensnake, Breach, Maxxi Soundsystem), though appearances from Jimmy Edgar, Agoria and Boddika suggest forays into tougher territory.
Flower Power @ Pacha
Veteran hippie DJ Piti is back playing classic-era rock and pop for his fancy-dressed faithful.
Rumors @ Plan Be
He might have swapped the gloss of Pacha for the rugged backdrop of Plan Be, but there's still a strong air of mysticism surrounding Guy Gerber's second island residency. The party arm of Gerber's new record label, Rumors will only releases its lineups on the day, with residents joined by weekly big-name guests. As one of this summer's few official day parties, it could be popular with Monday's strong afterparty crowd.
Fuse @ Sankeys
Fuse are back in their original Tuesday night slot for 2014. With more dates booked in than last year, and sets from tINI, Sonja Moonear and Onur Özer all confirmed, Enzo Siragusa and his esteemed team of residents will try to cement their place as one of the island's sharpest underground outfits.
Carl Cox: Music Is Revolution @ Space
Coxy will commemorate his 13th year at Space with 14 weeks of parties, making this his longest season in history. Kick-starting the summer with a one-man, ten-hour takeover of the Discoteca, the UK doyen will go on to play alongside everybody from Julio Bashmore, Dyed Soundorom and Todd Terry, to Marco Carola, Green Velvet and Danny Tenaglia. There's also space for his old pal Laurent Garnier—his sole Ibiza date of 2014. All in all, expect Music Is Revolution to retain its spot as the island's most popular party.
Back for a third term at DC-10, Jamie Jones has been bitten by the tribal bug.
La Troya @ Amnesia
La Troya is thought of as the most theatrical and aesthetically engaging of Ibiza's gay/gay-friendly parties. With different themes each week and a pumping house soundtrack on the Terrace, it's as close to Rio Carnival as you'll get on the island. The Main Room is more straightforward, offering commercial sounds and tons of foam.
Suara @ Booom!
Revered Barcelona label Suara launches its debut White Isle residency. With label head Coyu joined weekly by a mixture of close affiliates and guests, it'll be interesting to see how well this Spanish favourite fares in an international market.
Luciano & Friends @ Cova Santa
Following a limp summer at Ushuaia, the Cadenza boss aims to inject some freshness into his party across six dates at the Amnesia-owned venue. Running during the day (with the occasional nocturnal carry-on) the event should benefit from Cova Santa's leafy, open-air feel. Which of his friends Luciano invites, however, isn't yet known.
Jamie Jones presents Paradise @ DC-10
There's a tribal theme running across Ibiza in 2014, and Jamie Jones wants in on the action. This summer, Jones' third at DC-10, promises to be his biggest on the island, with five of the party's 13 weeks dedicated to full-club takeovers. Marco Carola on the Terrace will be this year's hot ticket, while debut performances from Move D, Midland, Gerd Janson and Dungeon Meat present an alternative to the carousel of big hitters. If it's the latter you're after, though, Dixon, Art Department, Disclosure, Maya Jane Coles and Cajmere should do the trick.
Ibiza Rocks After Party @ Es Paradis
The clue is in the name. Entry to Es Paradis is free, provided you've just been to Ibiza Rocks.
Channel Zoo @ Gala Night
For all its wanton silliness, Channel Zoo is as dedicated to top-notch underground sounds as anyone on the island. In fact, given that Patrice Scott, Midland, A Guy Called Gerald, Spencer Parker and Giles Smith all played last year, you could say that few do deep house as seriously. But here's the real deal clincher: it's also one of the most affordable options on the market.
Bedlam @ Gatecrasher Ibiza
A long-standing fixture at Liverpool's legendary Garlands nightclub, this new night promises 17 weeks of frenzied revelry with a house and EDM soundtrack.
Ibiza Rocks @ Ibiza Rocks Hotel
With parties at Pikes, Pacha and the Ibiza Rocks hotel, the iconic San Antonio brand are gearing up for one of their biggest seasons in recent history. The flagship Wednesday night events will run as usual, headlined by a mix of chart-topping pop (Lily Allen, Ed Sheeran, Tinie Tempah), rock (Jake Bugg, Kaiser Chiefs, Bombay Bicycle Club) and dance (Rudimental) acts. Top of the pile, though, is US rapper Nas's appearance in July.
Aoki's Playhouse @ Pacha
Expect stage diving, cake throwing and plenty more from Steve Aoki's debut Ibiza residency.
Reverse @ Privilege (Vista Club)
The prize for this year's best PR campaign goes to Reverse. The Madrid superclub has outlined 11 weeks of extra terrestrial-themed fun, armed with techno from UNER, Technasia, Vitalic, Dosem and many more.
Tribal Sessions @ Sankeys
With a history that dates back, in some shape or form, to 1993, it's surprising it's taken Tribal Sessions this long to have a crack at Ibiza. A longtime Sankeys Manchester staple, the party will mark the club's 20th anniversary by diving straight in with a 20-week programme. Covering every corner of the house (Move D, Aphrohead, François K, Michael Mayer, Mr. G) and techno (Dave Clarke, Rødhåd, Derrick May, Jeff Mills, Marcel Fengler) spectrum—often on the same night—these 12-hour events should appeal to many.
One Night with... @ Space
This three-part series will be over by the second week of June, having hosted Mike Candys, DJ BL3ND and Junior Sanchez.
Ibiza Calling @ Space
Back for a second Wednesday-night term, Space's in-house production is known for its friendly atmosphere and globetrotting headline acts.
Departures @ Ushuaia
Expect big sounds and bigger production from the former Swedish House Mafia pair Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso.
Richie Hawtin continues to push the boundaries. This year's motto? Explore.Discover.
Diynamic Outdoor @ Cova Santa
It's all change for Solomun et al. this summer, moving from the sweaty confines of Sankeys to the sunny—and arguably better-suited—surroundings of Cova Santa. The daytime events will run across eight weeks in July, August and September calling on the label's extensive and experienced roster of live acts and DJs.
Cream @ Amnesia
Rumour has it that for Cream's 20th birthday in July both Paul Van Dyk and Paul Oakenfold will be spinning classic trance sets. That aside, it'll be business as usual from the UK titan in 2014, with multiple bookings for Calvin Harris, Eric Prydz, Laidback Luke and Steve Angello.
Mass Bass @ Privilege
Be it dubstep, electro or trap, this new bass-heavy night promises to rattle every inch of Privilege's cavernous arena.
Cuff @ Sankeys
Popular French duo Amine Edge & DANCE will bring bags of energy and attitude to Sankeys this summer, hosting weekly label showcases that blur the lines between hip-hop and house.
ENTER. @ Space
When considering its ethos, music and production, no party in Ibiza is as complete as ENTER. Richie Hawtin and co. look set to make year three their biggest and best yet. Though full details are yet to be announced, the party's new interactive addition ENTER.CNTRL "places the music directly in the hands of partygoers from around the world." In a scene that rests on its laurels all too often, it's hard to have anything but praise for ENTER.'s inventive efforts.
Symmetry @ Space
Of all of Space's warm-up events, this five-part series looks the most interesting. Running across five weeks in May and June, the likes of John Talabot, Magda, Visionquest and Mathew Jonson will all play a role. The pick of the bunch, though, has to be Carl Craig's Somewhere In...Ibiza party with Kenny Larkin and Stacey Pullen.
F**k Me I'm Famous @ Pacha
If previous years are anything to go on, David Guetta's flagship event is likely to be Pacha's main breadwinner in 2014.
Armin Van Buuren presents A State of Trance @ Ushuaia
Considering the numbers he used to pull at Privilege, The Flying Dutchman should easily sell-out Ushuaia week on week.
Marco Carola will continue to cast his spell over Amnesia's Friday night crowd.
Music On @ Amnesia
Regarded by many as 2013's MVP, few would bet against Marco Carola making his third term at Amnesia his most successful yet. Taking the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" approach, the lineups remain largely unchanged from last year, with Jamie Jones, Carl Cox and Guti all back on support duty. Chris Liebing, Oxia and Radio Slave are highlights from the handful of new arrivals. But these are just details—Music On is only ever about one man.
Water Party @ Es Paradis
The same soaked-through event as on Tuesday, but with a fresher soundtrack.
We Are Rockstars! @ Ibiza Rocks Hotel
The rockstar party that has nothing to do with rockstars, W.A.R! welcomes another hefty batch of party-starting DJs to San Antonio. Mark Ronson, Fatboy Slim, DJ EZ, Zane Lowe, Doorly, Cyril Hahn and 2ManyDJs will all be playing your favourite dance hits.
This Is Hard Rock Hotel @ Hard Rock Hotel / Ushuaia
A selection of main-stage headliners will touch down in Playa d'en Bossa in 2014, including Chic Feat. Nile Rodgers, UB40 and Snoop Dogg.
Insane @ Pacha
After a solid debut in 2013, Insane now stands as Pacha's leading underground night. The new season will see the club steer the party towards a classic house sound, enlisting the services of several masters. Dennis Ferrer and MK lead the charge, with Tensnake, DJ Sneak and Groove Armada all on hand. It's not all change, though, as John Digweed remains as resident. Guy Gerber will put in a few cameos, hosting monthly Wisdom Of The Glove takeovers.
SuperMartXé @ Privilege
Many people aren't aware of it, but SuperMartXé is Ibiza's most successful party. Packing 10,000 people into Privilege week in and week out, it's a haven of trashy, commercial entertainment. On the off chance it pops up on your radar, it's worth visiting just for the spectacle.
Flying Circus @ Sankeys
Audiofly survived Sankeys annual clearout. Last year had its ups and downs, but as long as Luca and Anthony have learnt that the party is best kept within the confines of the Basement the rest should fall into place. The lineups aren't out yet, but expect a plethora of Flying Circus regulars.
Clandestin presents Full On by Ferry Corsten @ Space
Not since Armin Van Buuren in 2011 has Space had a trance DJ hold down a residency.
The ANTS are back, flying the flag for underground sounds at Ushuaia.
Matinée @ Amnesia
As bonkers as it gets in Ibiza. Matinée is very Spanish and totally insane. It's another one to go and gawp at, should the opportunity present itself.
Glitterbox @ Booom!
This new night from the Defected camp will showcase classic house and disco from some of the sound's most revered figures. Top of the pile is Bostonian pioneer Arthur Baker, while the likes of Dimitri From Paris, Joey Negro, CJ Mackintosh, Todd Terry, Horse Meat Disco and Late Nite Tuff Guy will all play multiple dates. On a live tip, Hercules & Love Affair will perform twice, and there's room for an Ibiza legend in the form of DJ Pippi.
Hed Kandi @ Es Paradis
Hands-in-the-air house against the backdrop of San Antonio's Es Paradis.
Zoo Project @ Gala Night
The fusion of body-paint with first-rate house and techno makes for one of the island's most charming (and least pretentious) party atmospheres. Drawing on a lot of acts from the London and Berlin scenes, who often find themselves trying to make sense of their wild surroundings, it's always entertaining. Lineups are still TBA, but expect club music's deeper shades.
Bedlam @ Gatecrasher Ibiza
Sister station to the world-famous Kiss 100, Kisstory made a name for itself as a dedicated purveyor of old-school dance anthems. Expect nothing less from their first summer on the island.
Pure Pacha @ Pacha
Martin Solveig, Bob Sinclair and Kaskade will all hold the fort at Pacha's flagship event. There are also slots for Louie Vega and Kenny Dope, appearing once as Masters At Work and also individually.
The Pharm @ Privilege (Vista Club)
Pushing a similarly throbbing brand of house and techno to Reverse, it'll be interesting to see how this new outfit fares at the often-overlooked Vista Club.
Magna Carta @ Sankeys
Another piece of Sankeys' plan to totally dominate the UK market, this popular London party has put together a sturdy debut programme. It's house all the way, with Tim Green, Jordan Peak, Ramon Tapia and Pirupa all playing several dates.
Kehakuma / Elrow @ Space
The island's most striking recent partnership, if mostly for their apparent incongruity. Respectively the most minimal and maximal events on the circuit, Kehakuma and Elrow will join forces to offer Space's weekend crowd an idiosyncratic experience. With Elrow pushing over-the-top exuberance in the Discoteca and Kehakuma keeping it stripped-back and groovy in the Terraza, it remains to be seen whether their two worlds will collide or conjoin.
ANTS @ Ushuaia
With the rest of the week devoted to EDM, ANTS are Ushuaia's sole advocates of house and techno in 2014. Bookings-wise, it's looking like another season of punchy club music, with Hot Since 82, Maya Jane Coles, Deetron, Joris Voorn and crowd-pleaser Andrea Oliva all back in action. With that out of the way, we can focus on what we really want to know: can ANTS top last year's PR campaign?
Solomun returns with a mountain of mouth-watering +1s.
GLOW Neon Paint Party @ Es Paradis
Fluorescent fun and chart music in the gardens of Es Paradis.
Solomun +1 @ Pacha
Following a rip-roaring first term, the Diynamic boss is back playing poppy house and techno at Pacha. His guestlist features many of the same names as last year, with DJ Koze, Âme and Heidi all invited back. There are a couple of new additions, the most notable being Dixon. Expect much the same formula as last year, with guests spinning solo, followed by a back-to-back session alongside their host.
VIVa Warriors @ Sankeys
The lynchpin in Sankeys' success, Steve Lawler and his warriors are again likely to pull in the club's highest attendances. With Darius Syrossian off to Tribal Sessions, there's space for Miguel Campbell, Nick Curly and Detlef to make their mark. Guest appearance from Guti and Steve Bug are always popular. And there's the small matter of Detroit renegade Moodymann, who will play a rare Ibiza show on September 14th.
We Love... @ Space
2014 could be the year We Love... reclaims the title of people's favourite. Indeed, one look at the team of residents—Ben UFO, Bicep, Sasha, Paul Woolford, Skream, Disclosure, James Zabiela, Dusky—and you can tell they mean serious business. And then there's the guests. Octave One, Danny Tenaglia, Carl Craig and a back-to-back set from Michael Mayer and Roman Flügel are among the highlights, though really none are as tasty as Loco Dice's five-room takeover in August. It'll be one of only two Ibiza dates, so file it under "must-see."
Avicii @ Ushuaia
Will he still be playing "Levels"? The Swedish 20-something lines up his third season in a row.
