Guardian Music Monthly checks out Diplo-sponsored Brazilians Bonde Do Role, who’ve been making particular waves in London recently with their irreverent goof funk. The genre name is Baile funk, in case you don’t know, and it’s a genre that’s set up camp in the favelas and somewhere on the periphery of the Miami bass sound. Their first single, 'Solta O Frango' literally means ‘release the chicken’ and with samples from Manfred Mann, Europe and the Grease soundtrack, this particular chicken is clearly of the agitated and headless variety. It’s not just the sound either, their live shows promise to walk the all the talk of their records as frontwoman Marina Vellos frees herself of the strictures of fashion and style to bounce about like a ADHD muppet refusing to take her Ritalin.
