Thu, 31 Jan 2013I am well aware of congress's role in this mess with the pre-funded payments for medical benefits as well as the postal clause. In those two things lies the solution; either privatize or repeal H.R. 6704 since the government for whatever reason has decided they don't want the USPS bringing in any revenue.

Wed, 30 Jan 2013Actually Navalverde, the Constitution requires the postal service to exist, and Congress is responsible for the 'lucrative pension promises' because it is the entity that sets the regulations that the USPS is forced, by law, to adhere to. 2006's Republican-controlled Congress and Presidency passed the bill that required USPS to fund pensions for 75-years outward, in a span of 10 years. NO OTHER GOVERNMENT AGENCY OR US BUSINESS HAS THAT REQUIREMENT.

Wed, 30 Jan 2013The U.S. Postal Service is the biggest joke. This is what happens when you promise everybody lucrative pensions that they probably don't deserve & let congress make uneducated decisions with an astounding economic impact. All in a bid to please their constituents in hopes of getting reelected.
