Live unprogrammed techno? At last year’s Montreaux Jazz Fest the six-man supergroup saw Richie Hawtin, Ricardo Villalobos, Carl Craig, Maurizio, Luciano, Zip and Dandy Jack lining up behind their laptops, but the lineup rotates gig to gig. So far just two chef du sonics have been confirmed for Sonar:

Ricardo Villalobos and Zip actually cooked up the idea for the project, which has included up to fourteen participants in the past. Check Philip Sherburne’s article on Perlon for a bit of background on the band, memorably described as “’faceless techno bollocks’ meets jam band, with its members throwing loops into the pot to create a bubbling stew of perpetual grooves.”

The UKs festival broadens its horizons by hosting its next event beside the beach in Asvem, Northern Goa. Acts confirmed include The Bays, Coldcut and Norman Jay. Dates: April 14 & 15.
