 | | | #0 / Thu, 06 Dec 07 18:28 ROBOTS FINAL BLOWOUT: ROBOTS have continuously fought against all living things to create a peaceful machine dominated world for 3 + years, and on December 20th 2007, ROBOTS will have their last stand. U.R.A. members have strategically infiltrated the human enemy compounds, and now the ROBOTS Evil Leader gives the final order, “execute sequence directive 1”. After 140 parties, the ROBOTS FINALE is here. To ignite the fuse, two special guests Chris Liebing and Joris Vorn will join ROBOTS residents Nick AC, Bill Patrick, and Dennis Rodgers to make sure ROBOTS go out with a BANG!CHRIS LIEBING: (CLR Recordings/Spinclub)It's no overstatement to say that Chris Liebing is one of the biggest and brightest stars of European Techno, and he is in fact confirmed year by year in the DJ Mag list of Top djs of the world. From early beginnings in the late 80s, working at seminal label Eye-Q, Chris soon started a busy career in club promotion, djing and production. In the early 90s, a prestigious DJ residency at the Omen club in Frankfurt, his expert programming and his succesful releases on his 'Fine Audio Recordings' label, put him firmly on the map of the best electronic dance music. In the mid 90s, his popularity grew bringing further opportunities: a weekly radio show, a new club residency at U60311 and the set up of his new label CLR (and sub labels Clretry, CLAU, Stigmata and Soap). At the beginning of the new millennium, a new successful challenge has been the collaboration with the experimental techno producer Speedy J. Both artists, in fact, were eager to join forces and play shows which were "dynamic, varied and adventurous and able to keep the crowds attention throughout the entire set". Their 12" for the Collabs 300 series and then the album METALISM, both on Novamute, are among the best techno releases of recent years. For the past two summers, ROBOTS Nick AC has been a resident at Chris Liebing’s Spinclub residency in Ibiza where Chris not only plays, 4 to the floor no-nonsense techno, but also bridges the gap between the minimal and pounding techno spheres perfectly! Joris Voorn: & JORIS VOORN (Sino/Green/Sound Architecture)His first two productions on the Dutch label “Keynote” named “Muted Trax pt.1 and pt.2” were a success and got extremely good critics nationally and more important internationally. End 2003 ‘Lost memories Pt.1’ was released on Technasia’s SINO label, and will be followed up by ‘Lost memories Pt.2’ may 2004 containing two killer tracks already been played by many.. [Clarke, Garnier, Deetron, Technasia… check the review in the next issue of Mixmag Magazine]. Next to the first two releases of our “Sound Architecture Records” label there will be new material released on Transmat, Keynote and his debut album on SINO [end of summer]. As a deejay Joris has been around for a while, spinning since 1997 in different clubs nationwide. Besides doing his ‘high energy’ live sets Joris loves dj’ing as well, playing a wide range of techno and house with his own remark. Never boring and always innovating because that’s his nature. In 2004 Joris performed live at the famous Tresor Club in Berlin,Awakenings Festival in Amsterdam, The Loft in Barcelona and the Movement Festival in Detroit and Kozzmozz in Gent Belgium. As his Alter ego Dark Science he produced "The real issue" on Sound Architecture records including remixes from Deetron and Alexander Kowalski. His first release ‘Muted Trax pt 1' on Dutch label Keynote was well received and picked up on by the likes of Laurent Garnier and Carl Craig. He followed this success with his first release on Sino last December, ‘Lost Memories Pt.1' which caused a stir amongst the dance community and made Joris a recognised name. If ‘Lost Memories Pt 1' suggested Joris was a true talent, then Pt 2 in the series confirmed it. The piano filled ‘Incident' charted in almost every dance magazine of worth, made No. 1 in Mixmag's Techno singles, was playlisted by John Peel and was championed by none other than Carl Cox. Whilst the two 12's that have preceded ‘Future History' do feature in part on the album, do not fear. This is not just another compilation of tunes built for the dance floor and then stuck onto CD in the hope of making some extra cash. This is an album in the true sense of the word. ‘Future History' demonstrates Joris' talent as a musician and album crafter, along side his already proven skills as a techno producer. Trying to name standout tracks is not only made difficult by the sheer number of them, but is also missing the point. Joris Voorn has made an album that draws on over three years work and seamlessly blends techno, breaks and electro into a 77minute soundscape that represents his coming of age. This young Dutchman has everything it takes to become huge and ‘Future History' could well be the album that takes him there. ROBOTS FINAL BLOWOUT! | #1 / Fri, 14 Dec 07 17:02 (Edited: 14 Dec 07 18:01) TimeOut interview: Machine head - Robots’ Nick AC closes up his techno shop.Machine head: Robots’ Nick AC closes up his techno shop. By Bruce Tantum When Nick Ashley-Cooper, better known to New York’s nightlifers as Nick AC, kicked off the Robots party in 2003, techno was still a dirty word to many in the city’s clubbing community, and minimal generally referred to art or wages. Nowadays, thanks to the efforts of Ashley-Cooper and his coresident DJs Bill Patrick and Dennis Rodgers—along with a handful of like-minded souls, like Bryan “DJ Spinoza” Kasenic from the Bunker bash—the town’s gone a bit techno-crazy. Over the past four years, Robots has attracted the stars of the scene, with big-name spinners and performers such as Ellen Allien, Superpitcher and Luciano playing alongside pretty much every local who’s ever dropped an electronic beat. Even though Ashley-Cooper moved to the U.K. last year to pursue an MBA at London Business School, he and the crew kept the party going stronger than ever. But on Thursday 20, the final Robots will take place at Cielo. POWER OUTAGE Nick AC pulls the plug on Robots Why end Robots now, while it still seems to be at the peak of its popularity? It’s geographical, but it just feels like a good time to do this, really. The party means so much to all of us, so making this decision was not easy. But it’s good to do it this way, rather than just have it fizzle out. It feels like you guys, along with a few others, managed to muscle a whole, new electronic-music scene into existence here in NYC.I think that we started doing this at the right time, more than anything else. This whole sound was just gathering momentum, with labels like Kompakt coming out of Germany and the minimal sound really starting to explode. I would love to take the credit for popularizing this stuff, but all we and people like Bryan did was to give it a platform. But it is satisfying to be involved in something that’s grown and developed so much. And it was so exciting to bring these people who were making the records. It does seem like you were able to get everyone who works in the electronic-dance-music realm.Well, we would have loved to have gotten Anthony Rother—he has this amazing live show. And we never got Rich [techno deity Richie Hawtin], which is a shame because he’s such an inspiration for so many people. Oh yeah, there’s Ricardo Villalobos, but I don’t think he’ll play in America. Maybe when Bush leaves office. Are there any Robots parties that stand out in your memory? There’s really too many to go into. But our favorite ones were at Café Deville, where we packed tons of people into this tiny, smoky room. The very last one we did there, with DJ Three, particularly stands out. The subwoofer caught on fire and we blew a Pioneer DJM-500 mixer, and they’re more or less bulletproof. That was a good night. TimeOut NewYork interview with ROBOTS Nick AC

| #2 / Tue, 18 Dec 07 15:13 After more than three years and over 140 parties, the Robots crew goes out with a sonic techno-boom courtesy of Chris Liebing and Joris Voorn. Both are hugely influential DJs and producers who purvey proper, four-on-the-floor techno. The three original Robots residents, Nick AC, Bill Patrick, and Dennis Rodgers, who have all come into their own as globe-crossing DJs, reconvene behind the decks for the first time in over a year. – Kendra Borowski http://flavorpill.com/newyork/events/2007/12/20/robots-present-chris-liebing-and-joris-voorn

| #3 / Tue, 18 Dec 07 15:16 ROBOTS GO MISSING....(for now) After an incredible journey that has lasted 3+ years and seen over 140 parties Robots will be coming to an end on 20th December 2007. This has obviously not been an easy decision to make, but we feel now is the right time to take a break. The last two shows will be at Cielo on Thu Nov 29th and Thu Dec 20th: NOV 29th: EWAN PEARSON (Soma/Kompakt/Fabric) & LEE CURTIS (Alphahouse/Dumb Unit/Spectral Sound) DEC 20th: CHRIS LIEBING (Clr Recordings/Spinclub) & JORIS VOORN (Sino/Green/Sound Architecture)(**Limited edition final show t-shirts**) I believe this year has been one of our most memorable in terms of line-ups and parties and I am really happy to be finishing on such a high note. Robots had grown into something much more than any of us initially envisioned. We have connected with hundreds of people through the party and made many life long friends. Thank you for being behind us all these years and creating all the great memories. You made the party what it is and gave us the inspiration to keep doing it. THANK YOU! I also wanted to take this opportunity to thank all the venues that have helped us: Open Air, Café Deville, Table 50, Canal Room, Cielo, BED Miami & New York, Love, Pacha NY, Hiro Ballroom The American Museum of Natural History. Deville I will never forget for the sweat and smoked filled early days when we were starting out (and of course melting the sub woofer and setting the pioneer mixer on fire at our last party.) Nicolas has done a superb job with Cielo and we can safely say that it has hosted some of our best parties. The residency has been a major factor to why we were able to keep going through the last year and a half. Thanks also go to Brian the bartender at Deville, Benny and Jesse at Cielo. Thanks to all the promoters who are putting in a huge effort to keep the music scene in NYC alive and well. (Don’t forget to add me to the guestlist…! ) Last but not least thanks goes to all these artists for playing incredible sets and providing so much enjoyment for us all over the years: 214 112 Crew Ada Adam X Adultnapper Alden Tyrell Alexi Delano Ambivalent Andrew Grant Andy Vaz Apparat Audion Barem Bodycode Butane Camea Cari Lekebusch Chris Liebing Damian Lazarus Dan Mnookin Dandy Jack Dapayk Dave Hollands Deepak Sharma Derek Plaslaiko Dexter Dietrich Schoenemann Digitaline Dinky Djinxx Dominik Eulberg Echoplex Ectomorph Eddie Richards Ellen Allien Extrawelt Francois K Function Graham Greg Shiff Gui Boratto Heartthrob Hishma Samawi Insideout Jake Fairley Jame T.Cotton JCG Jeff Milligan Jeff Samuel Jeremy Caulfield Joel Mull John Selway Jori Hulkkonen Josh Wink Kevin 'Micromini' McHugh Konrad Black Larry McCormick Leonard Posso Lisandro Che Luciano Magda Mambotur Marc Houle Marco Carola Marcus Cabral Mark S.Krux Matthew French Maya Metope Michael Mayer Michel De Hey Mike Bryant Mike Shannon Mouse on Mars Noah Pred Pan/Tone Paul Kalkbrenner Paul Louth Peter Anthony Pheek Pier Bucci Plexus Radioactive Man Reade Truth Reverse Commuter Richard Fearless Richard Hinge Rob Patterson Robin Porter Sammy Dee Scape One Serge Slynus Solvent Someone Else Sonja Moonear Speedy J Stadenco Stewart Walker SubK Superpitcher Sven Vath Swayzak Soundsystem T.Raumschmiere Band Taimur Agha The Hacker Three Tiefschwarz Tim Xavier Tobi Neumann Tom Amoroso Tony Rohr Trentemoller Troy Pierce I’m sure you won’t have heard the last of us (hint hint…), but for now you certainly have! | #10 / Fri, 21 Dec 07 18:39 HOLY SHIT!!!!!!!!!
Joris was really good, Chris was totally off the charts. I dare say the best, most intense 2 hrs of music of the year for me - proper techno like NYC hasn't seen in years. The only way I can describe it was like a heavy weight bout - him vs. the dance floor. We'd take a punch and then keep going back for more. Relentless and so, so, so much fun.
