| #11 / Thu, 22 Apr 10 13:28 The Coldest Season is truly superb, but I wasn't overly impressed with Modell's solo album. Nevertheless I'll be eagerly awaiting this one.

| #12 / Fri, 23 Apr 10 17:30 The Coldest Season is truly classic, one of my favorite albums over the past 10 years, I hope this one is as good. The bonus album sounds quite interesting, cant wait to get my hands on this.

| #19 / Fri, 25 Jun 10 01:23 buy quick so you get the double CD disc package. the second disc is 80 minutes of field recording titled Lumina - Reduced. "field recordings" is somewhat of an oxymoron used here since Tokyo is one of the most fascinating masses of concrete, neon, and humanity run amuck. this is some serious "still waters running from the abyss".

 | RA Review Before dance music (and techno specifically) established its universal grip, the late '80s saw an outcrop of musique concrete-influenced experimental artists who produced ambient and experimental music incorporating intentional noise and field recordings. | #22 / Tue, 29 Jun 10 13:08 yeah, for RA's habit of easily handing out 4 star reviews, this should have been one a 4 and a half. One of the year's best releases, it's a deep, immersive listen, more and more so every time I listen. The bonus disc is great too. Been obsessed with it and even though it might not be innovative like Coldest Season, I'm digging this one even more.
A better review, coming closer to what the experience is like for me:

| #29 / Tue, 29 Jun 10 17:57 This isn't The Coldest Season or even a faint trace of it which I feel is a very good thing, I was happy to hear something new being attempted with this sound and that is the definition of this album, the rating here is way off the mark imho, 5/5 without hesitation. The review below was spot on: www.thelineofbestfit.com/2010/06/deepchord-presents-echospace-liumin/

| #31 / Tue, 29 Jun 10 19:20 3 1/2 of rating???..... PFFF, this album is awesome as everything done by DeepChord/Echospace or Modell and Hitchell by their own... I think it deserves more.
this is not The Coldest Season 2.... its a new album. new ideas, new sounds...
and what about the bonus CD of field recordings???... it's awesome as well, maybe more than the first one.

| #37 / Wed, 30 Jun 10 00:10 Posting reviews on other releases as a method of justifying your argument for higher ratings on music you love is a waste of time. The suggestion that this release sits on an inherently higher plane and therefore demands higher ratings simply doesn't hold any weight. It's just your opinion. Instead of getting your pants in a knot and trying to belittle the review process, why not just enjoy the music you love and form your own opinions?
It gets so tired and relentlessly underwhelming to read a review and then note a bunch of comments from various board members shitting on the rating and then providing their own - often without any explanation.
Does it really matter what RA thinks? Trust your own judgement people!

Thomas, are you familiar with Monolake's 'Hongkong'?

| #44 / Wed, 30 Jun 10 20:43 Nice review, but I think you overstate the extent to which the kind of electro-acoustic or musique concrete type of work performed by The Hafler Trio etc. 'died out' from the late 1980s. There was a seady stream of labels continuing that type of work through the '90s (most obviously Touch, of course, but some of the A-Muzik material from the likes of Markus Schmickler, turn-of-the-millennium work on Bernhard Guentner's Trente Oiseaux and finally the 'micro-sound' aesthetic of Richard Chartier et al), and I well recall Thomas Brinkmann's 2004 album 'Tokyo' which was based around street recordings made in...Japan.
Much like the new Echospace record, in fact...

| #48 / Thu, 01 Jul 10 16:49 great unique vision of dub-music! like that it is more on the melancholic and experimental side than on the sunny side of dub modern love is one of the most interesting labels at the moment.

Completely agree that this is very reminiscent of Brinkmann's Tokyo+1, but I would argue this album is less to do with musique concrete than Brinkmann's. I'm not sure how the dub techno/ house beats of previous work by Modell and Hitchell are any less audible here than the past echospace outings. Sounds to me like its all over this release. Brinkmann's record only features one track with heavy techno beats. To add to WJ Gibson's outstanding start of a list, I would also add labels like Editions Mego, Kranky, Type Records, line, 12k, raster noton, and Miasmah to the list of labels covering the musique concrete/ post-post-industrial disco dance spectrum very well over the past ten or twenty years. And didn't die. It gave birth to many offspring. In It's place has grown up the dronembient, dark ambient, and the rather bloated and ill-defined experimental music scenes with the likes of Sun0)))))), Oren Ambarchi, KTL, Svarte Greiner, Ben Frost, Belong, Earth, Tim Hecker, and Fennesz (to name a smidgeon) carrying the torch. I guess the point is that it's not so much that industrial music as gone out with a whimper. Rather it splintered beginning in the mid-to-late 80s and throughout the 90s into further explorations of musique concrete in experimental/ambient/drone subgenres on the one hand and pop-oriented industrial music like the rock of Skinny Puppy, Nine Inch Nails, Ministry, and others. None of this is to say that this isn't a great review or album. Both are stellar, and I'm really thankful for the interesting history lesson for those who think industrial died when skinny puppy broke up or when trent reznor gave up the drugs.

| #50 / Fri, 02 Jul 10 04:28 I don't think anything is over stated - underrated would have been a better term. This review didn't outline the scope of a 160 minute experience (a double CD album) or serve any justice to the quality of material you're about to listen to. At least he didn't plaster us with Basic Channel analogies. This grows more perfect with each listen 10/5 if you were to ask me.
