I completely agree, although I think he's been getting serious respect since he began. I definitely agree with you statement that he plays what he loves, irrelevant of trends. I would also go one step further to say that Surgeon tends to shift and change things in a way that stays really interesting: compare some of his first records (Magneze EP, Muggerscum Out EP and Communications album for example) with some of the latest things he's done on Dynamic Tension (Compliance Momentum)... worlds apart. One of the best musicians of our generation, in my view.
