Alan has always been insightful; (History) i stayed in an apartment back in the day (banging techno) late nights on the Wayne State University Campus (his show/tapes), i notice my signal was very, very clear.... i'd often call in (askin' about tunes) and one night looked outside my window. I could see him!!! (tripped me out).... He invited me in and i witnessed his show live.... i never forgot that day (LOL). Alan turned me on 2 the harder techno element & industral stuff B4 my years in Scan7. He's always been a mentor 2 me, a trusted friend, and one of my favorite DJ's; This man knows his shit!!! And i'll always be gratetful 4 the world he expose me 2 when i needed 2 escape the i had.Slayer -BLAKTONY

Must admit I just learned about him a few months ago after buying this release:
www.discogs.com/Various-A-Tribute-To-Ken-Collier/release/2243963

He did a really beautiful write up about Ken Collier on the cover. You can read it if you click on the image. Definitely eager to hear more of Alan's own music.

Alan is the best. I gave him two original Detroit Fight Club 313 airbrushed t-shirts. Why? He is a fighter, an artist and a leader and a friend.

I spent a few days in the Music Institute with Derrick, Chez Damier, Kai Alce, George, Alton and Alan.......lol.....listening to music.....white labels and so on. Good times. Great memories.

Alan has so much music. He is part of the reason I chose to stay with hard techno.

What Alan did not mention is his artwork......in and around the Music Institute......and in particular....his signature piece. Real heads know what I am talking about!!!

Playing favourites?

You have noooooo clue how deep his crates go.......noooooo clue about Alan's unreleased music........noooooo clue how serious Alan takes DJing........nooooo clue on where Alan will take a crowd once he goes into a "zone".

Congrats Alan!!!

Great stuff from Alan. I knew a lot of it but there's always new things to learn from you original cats. (Fun to play the tracks in the piece to accompany the reading. OK so I don't have the Weather Report but I've got everything else!)

BTW people his recent album as Inside is excellent!!! You can hear it online.

I chuckled at the "I was in High School when 'Computer World' came out" reference - I was already in college and past drinking age! haha :)

interesting reading how strong an influence kraftwerk was... complicates the story for those who want to bang out the usual 'techno was invented in detroit' reading of history.

Great article and a great chap, but this would really piss off anyone coming from Manchester!
"London was the shit. Everything good was coming from there. New Order. The Smiths."
Made me giggle anyway.
