 | RA Review Initially released in 1996, Funky Souls contrasted strikingly with Robert Hood's other material even at the time—and that difference grows more vivid yet when you compare it to what Hood has been up to in the time since then, particularly the sci-fi dystopian epic Omega . There's little in..

| #3 / Mon, 02 Aug 10 20:02 I heard this everywhere all of May and now the craze seems to have died down a bit? Not my favorite track but definitely effective. Hood has done some other cool experiments with disco too...

| #4 / Mon, 02 Aug 10 20:50 Its a fun release. Absolutely love that 'greatest dancer' track, thanks for posting the youtube vid. Hood always use to play this towards the end of his high powered techno sets! Awesome contrast, goes very nicely.

Definitely! I think alot of people haven't heard that side of him but he can definitely go nuts with the filtered disco sound sometimes in his sets... Good stuff.

| #6 / Mon, 02 Aug 10 22:07 for some reason i have always hated this record with a passion. i always thought the production was pretty crap, and it really seemed like it was a joke to hood the entire way through, from production to release.
now that its back out, it irks me even more. feels like its just a money grab, even though i love hood to death.
i actually owned this record at one time, and it sat collecting dust in my stacks for years until i found it again when moving to nyc, and i couldn't put it for sale on discogs fast enough. coincidentally, it sold within the first 48hrs, so i guess that's a plus.

| #9 / Tue, 03 Aug 10 06:57 it's not hood's best work, but the club mix is an effective loop. i don't like the arrangement of the vocals (the male vocals)
the greatest dancer is much much better track

| #11 / Tue, 03 Aug 10 11:18 Check out Hood's remix of 'funk all y'all' by Detroit Grand Pubahs for more of a crossover between his disco experimental side and the classic high powered Hood. ACE!!!!

| #13 / Tue, 03 Aug 10 20:56 I kind of agree with eric, although I wouldn't say it is a bad record. There is just something about it that I'm not all that crazy about. Maybe I'm just biased towards the face smashing techno side of robert hood...

| #15 / Tue, 03 Aug 10 23:53 definitely one for the collection though, i was 7 years old in '96 when it was released first time around, so funnily enough i didn't pick it up! so i'm glad it was re-pressed, for whatever reason!
