Slam - Maffaking cover
RA Review
I've always thought of Slam as occupying a space somewhere in between the Chemical Brothers, Joey Beltram and somewhere more underground... let's say Traum, for the emotionality. Perhaps it's my experiences at T in the Park in Scotland around the beginning of the decade, where adverts for Alien Rad..

It never ceases to amze me that people remark 'Slam are back' or they are surprised that Slam continue to be so good. Slam and a few of their generation - David Holmes, Darren Emerson and Andy Weatherall for example - are proper, desrved pioneers, innovators, party people. They have never gave up, created trends rather than follow them and continue to play the game with the entusiasm of a teenager. They are top quality. Their own label Soma is one of the best and fair play. Its a shame they have to release on other labels to recapture their cred but hey it just shows they love it.

Total agree with you comments, i see them every month and can honestly say they still blow me away at times. They are like the sasha & digweed of techno. always moving forward not looking back, The set they done at titp was the best of the night, i can honestly say im blessed up here in glasgow.

Slam have been my direction for what real techno is and where it should be going as of late. Having them out on Drumcode just confirms my suspicion.

Gotta get this one.

Next @ Loop
Have to say it's not really up my street. All a bit techno-by-numbers imo but that's more to do with my preferences these days - no doubt whatsoever it'll work in a club.

Having said that it's been good to see them get back to releasing simple club music in the last couple of years. That 'Year Zero' album from a few years back was about three steps too far into the mainstream for me. They seem to be recovering from that now!

great question. if by 'deep' you mean banging, hard techno, then the author nailed it.
