 | RA Review Over the past few years, what used to be called dubstep has been tugged mercilessly in all directions. But while Hyperdub duo (now trio) Darkstar has been moving farther away from traditional dubstep, North is by anyone's expectations a shocking digression. There's no denying the considerable appe..

| #8 / Mon, 18 Oct 10 15:33 I'm more in agreement with Pitchfork's assessment. Aidy's still by far the most interesting track and the rest is a step back to something fairly conventional. I don't find it far off from Junior Boys, really. It's a lovely, occasionally moving album but I think perhaps the hype is coming from the fact that it's on Hyperdub and critics are intrigued with the band's story and the process that got them to something interesting but ultimately quite accessible.

| #11 / Mon, 18 Oct 10 19:54 I like this, but I don't love it. It's an interesting album, but I do fine myself skipping to 'Aidy's Girl Is A Computer' instead of just listening to it straight through.

| #14 / Tue, 19 Oct 10 05:29 An utterly beautiful album. Not what I expected in the slightest and that's what I love most about it. 'Gold' and 'Dear Heartbeat' haunt you endlessly.

| #17 / Wed, 20 Oct 10 08:23 Yeah, if you divorce the fact that this is Darkstar releasing an LP on Hyperdub, this isn't particularly great or groundbreaking work. It's just a melancholy pop/synth-pop album that is quite pleasant to listen to. Nothing wrong with that, because I do like it, but 4.5 is a bit much. Also, weirdly, Aidy's Girl is still the song that has the most emotional impact on me.

| #20 / Sun, 24 Oct 10 07:14 Aidy's Girl Is a Computer was a great EP but as an album this is far over-rated but it is dub-step after all, next year this same album would get a 2/5 as it most likely wont fit with the times or trends.
