+1. I've heard that pre-orders will get a signed Christmas card from Hawtin. Nothing says Merry Christmas like a card from one of the scariest alter-egos in techno

| #18 / Thu, 23 Sep 10 21:07 Considering I've only got a smattering of his releases over the years, this looks like it'll be a good buy for someone who wants all the albums and doesn't have any. Really, it's not that big of a deal to bust out a "greatest hits" of sorts...except its not a greatest hits, it's a total re-release of everything plus some. Dunno why people are so butthurt over it. I wouldn't be surprised if a new album hits in 2011 after this. Hawtin, despite a few missteps like the clothing line and the cube, seems far more genuine and humble when I've read his interviews and met him, than say, a certain mousehead or frenchman props to that

| #21 / Thu, 23 Sep 10 22:59 The Plastikman - Arkives judging on the quality of Richie's work would be the ultimate collectible for an enthusiast. A retrospective view that one can appreciate in full. If you want quality you would need to pay for quality and that is how the world works. To get out, you need to put in and I think Richie deserves the royalty. I am looking forward to previewing the finished material and wish only the best for it.

| #22 / Thu, 23 Sep 10 23:08 Something completely different than Kompilation and definitely much more interesting especially regarding unreleased material, remixes collection and the videos. I'd probably buy selected MP3s/WAVs/AVIs though rather than the full package.. CD is such a waste of space for a digital format.

Maybe he's releasing all his old Plastikman tunes to prepare us for new ones?

| #27 / Fri, 24 Sep 10 20:11 i just think it's a bit disappointing how this is turning out... i mean, i bet a LOT of younger people got their first taste of 'the plastikman experience' during this worldwide tour... and i'm sure some of them liked it a lot. i can see how richie would want to celebrate the project but retrospective compilations, in my opinion, do not make the artists involved appear 'fresh' to younger audiences; if anything, it makes the entire project look like a nostalgia act. i bet a new album (excluding discussion, however valid, of how 'difficult' it would be for richie to get back into that mindset) would have helped retain a bunch of casual fans whose attention was grabbed by a rather cutting-edge live show. oh well... i'll look forward to new albums by magda and marc houle instead.

I've heard that pre-orders will get a signed Christmas card from Hawtin.
Anyway. Six previous albums? Sheet One, Musik, Consumed and Closer make four. The other two? Artifakts - all B-sides and rarities but not a cohesive piece. Cast-offs basically. And... Kompilation? Richie's Golden Greats? Wtf? I really cannot see the artistic worth as counter-balancing the capitalism, even for the chance to own the Do Da Doo remix which I can't seem to dig up anywhere else. It's the sort of plush regurgitation you'll eventually get from Norah Jones or Oasis - the retrospective that shruggingly suggests all creative energies are spent, time to close the lid on the coffin, put the money under the door and goodnight etc etc blah blah blah...

i know it's technically a 'compilation', but it was the first plastikman full-length i ever listened to and it's still my favorite (so maybe i'm biased)..... i've always thought it an excellent, coherent 'album' with a great sense of flow across all the tracks. but i agree with the rest of your point, unfortunately.

| #32 / Sun, 26 Sep 10 18:40 sounds interesting, yet why would you really want it remastered when the whole point of it was the abnormalities which added and coloured the sound. The only real difference is everything being exported in 24 bit (which is irrelevant if its then on a CD; bar the use of dither of course).. maybe we will have a video of a whisk working on its own instead of a rolling pin moving in a sketchy manner across a while table like that found in his previous DVD? That said, I have mine on pre-order and am readily awaiting the receipt of my embossed Christmas card

| #35 / Tue, 28 Sep 10 15:42 I would buy this as a tribute to a Master who deserves recognition for his work- as well as it's value as vinyl art. But I believe Richie's move to Berlin represented a massive shift in his work, placing business opportunities and leverage over the market as a priority rather than exploring creative possibilities in new works under his own name or Plastikman.
I would certainly never put a penny into his Cirque Du Soleil version of Plastikman. That sound is reserved for something other than trying to 'grab' a piece if the mainstream.

| #36 / Tue, 28 Sep 10 16:31 Naturally I'm curious about the unreleased stuff and remixes, but I was really thinking we'd get a new album. I know Closer wasn't everyone's favorite, but I thought it was great and was looking forward to hear what he'd do with the sound from there.
I have every album on vinyl, so it's hard for me to think of rebuying them, even if they're remastered ... just too broke these days. It's a great item for those who don't though, but I'll be curious to hear the prices. I just hope this revenue results in a vinyl pressing of JPLS "The Depths", because it's criminal it's not on wax already.

| #40 / Tue, 28 Sep 10 23:05 Interesting packages he's put together - a bit like the thinking behind high-end 'superfan' packages that Trent Reznor put out of NIN's work. The $300 Ultra-Deluxe Limited Edition of Ghosts I-IV immediately sold out its run of 2500. (Kerching!) Proof that physical products will still sell when you add value and price them well

Why should he? If Hawtin sees fit to release a bunch of previously - and widely - available recordings in some sort of a fancily trussed up presentation package complete with calf-skin record bag and mink-gland cologne that's Hawtin's business. Do you really think though that because he is in some nominal 'position' of 'mastery' to lord it over his underlings, it makes him impervious to criticism? Would you like to see this criticism bumped to a treasonable offence? Same old bollix argument trolleyed out to defend a man well past his creative summer by those with too much money and too little sense. And anyway, 'Prun' could in fact be Ralf Hutter's nom-de-plume for all you know. He likes the west of Ireland y'know.

| #42 / Wed, 29 Sep 10 22:57 Don't get me wrong. He's a genius. I've been a fan for a long time. I have lots of his stuff on vinyl from a long time back. I still listen to his albums and mixes all the time. Its great for people who don't have his older stuff and want to pick it up. Be nice if it was a new album though. When 'best of' and anthology releases come out I can't help feeling like its the end of an era and sometimes the prelude to a wind down. Hopefully not.

| #44 / Thu, 30 Sep 10 19:05 No orders until the 10th, so whoever is talking about an e-mail list and a pre-order is full of shit. As for the person who said that a retrospective detracts from new listeners' interest by making it sound old, do you realize how dumb you sound? Plastikman is undoubtedly timeless and only a rookie or a poser would think of it in those terms.
I for one am looking forward to having a compilation of his greatest on a high quality pressing. I just hope that we share the same definition of his "greatest". I also hope we share a common concept of reasonable value, as if this is even close to the cost of the Warp20 compilation ($150 retail for 5 vinyls, 5 CDs, a lengthy book, and high quality packaging) it's overpriced.
