Funny I thought it was looking like the inevitable d'n'b revival was upon us but it seems even the producers are still bored with it. Despite having been into it at the time, I'm not (yet?) interested in its revival myself.

I agree. Commix is dope shit, I still listen to their Fabriclive mix. I would have liked to hear a bit of their brand of D&B. Although, their style is so influenced by techno this should be interesting to hear their take. I'm sure RA requested this due to the recent remix album.

This mix is definitely not what I expected from Commix. Yet, I am pleasantly surprised. This is a damn good mix!

What a really great surprise-the musical sensibility is there; the set is really nicely put together-a fluid, grooving mix from guys better known for drum & bass? Who would've guessed?

So Commix get bored of drum and bass and, for the next couple of years, embark on a journey that culminates in them playing the same old boring stuff that every man and his dog is playing in the 'experimental' world of house, techno and UK bass.

RA Podcasts are like buses at the moment it seems.This week Commix do house & techno. There I was almost looking forward to hearing some decent Drum & Bass for a change. Oh well techno will have to do... Good old Uncle Techno.

They turn their backs on the scene that made their name, openly dissing it last year, and then force themselves onto another by playing the same generic stuff that everyone else is playing — thus adding nothing to the culture besides another mix to clog up hard drives.

A shame they couldn't use their status as straddlers of the jungle/dubstep divide to give us an Instra:mental/Breakage style set of forward facing soundsystem music. Guess I'll just have to wait for an Instra:mental/Breakage set instead. Still, tasty looking tracklist for sure.

I don't have a point besides this:

Commix made some frikin' kick-ass drum and bass. People loved them for it. Hey, I loved them for it.

Then they dissed the scene that made their name, pronouncing themselves above all that etc.

Then suddenly they're techno DJs? Next thing we know they'll be living in Berlin just as everyone else moves out.

i don't really give a fuck what they are supposed to play, this is a good mix.

So is d&b completely dead as a genre now? I don't really get the point of this. Too fast, too synthetic...sounds exactly like house music being DJ'd by some DnB DJs...oh.

i'm looking forward to downloading this later, Commix make great dnb and are wicked djs so sure this house/techno mix won't disappoint

Here is a concept, Commix do D&B set on a Friday night @ fabriclive then we get them to do a house and techno set at fabric on Saturday, between Luciano and Sasha!

very nice set. i read a while back that they where geting into more techno than d'n'b and i think that was a great move. there fabriclive is one of the only d'n'b comps i own and i really liked that also.

having spent some time watching them put together their new album, the launch party and this mix your view could not be further from the truth. No need to be so cynical, there are people out there that want to push boundaries rather than sit comfortably doing the same old thing, most people after all do usually have a passion for more than one style of music.

They dont. well said. Jeff Mills did a classical album of his old tracks, that was AMAzing. Also William Orbit has just released a new cd of classical music reinterpreted as EDM. Push them boundaries I say, otherwise music in what ever guise become stale and emotionless. bit like the pop charts post X-Factor.

For anyone to suggest reverting to the house/techno template is pushing boundaries needs to consider what exactly they're on (about). There is an interface between old-skool breakbeat and modern dubstep which has resulted in some astoundingly forward-facing music and here was an opportunity to showcase that sound by an emblematic act on a large public forum. Opportunity wasted, no matter how 'good' the end result.

Anybody at Fabric's birthday yesterday for Tobi Neumann's set would've heard him play one of Commix's new unreleased tracks and the crowd loved it....they must be doing something right...

Have to agree with Chris on this: I couldn't give a shit what genre they're playing so long as the mix is compelling. Yes, they could have done something very "un-RA" at 170 BPM, but notice that even dBridge & Instra's latest Autonomic mix is much lower on the tempo scale. DnB circa late '10 roughly = house/techno/electro. Who'da thunk it?

Plus, Photek - Solaris is a deadly tune. Nuff for me, any day.

For purely 1 hour 1 minute and 1 second of music, regardless of what this should or could have been, I really enjoyed it anyway

fucking hell why is it on forums people just cant help but be negative and cynical. you need to remember they are music lovers like you and me and maybe they fancy making/mixing music of a style that their heart is in right now, whats the point in continuing to make music that your not really feeling at the moment, end result is never going to be good.

so quieten down, go on DOA and listen to all the dnb mixes u desire. easy for you to criticise people who are successful when you have nothing of any credit to your name.
