Meh, iconic part of DJ history for sure but I think if you really want a pair there will be lots of good secondhand numbers floating around for time, they really do last forever, mine are about 12 years old! Does it really come as a surprise??? I don't think so.....

My decks have been in boxes for a few years.
It makes sense to keep electronic music on a digital platform such as Traktor and you can do so much more with a track that way. Times change I don't see it as bad news. if nothing changed we'd still be wearing dungarees, bandanas and smiley badges!

I love these turnables especially when you have the clear plastic case on. You can't really buy a better stand for your cdj's... =)

Oh well, since the pat. pending ( protection of tecnology used, notably the powerfull direct drive system) run out, we dont need to limit ourselvs to technics/panasconic.

There is other companys producing quality turntables with the same or even improved tech inside example:

Numark TTX.

this rumor has been 'reportedly' coming 'from' Panasonic for over a year. I'll believe it when I see a press release.

I remember reading the the Stanton ST150 were/are actually a better turntable...
Irrelevance aside does this mean I'll be able to pick up a cheap pair or will I still have to scrawl Technics™ in biro across the front of my Ion decks?

seems like someone is trying to boost the sales by making fake statements.
i mean if all these suckers like Numark, Gemini, Stanton, Vestax, ION etc. are still on the market i doubt that a mammoth like Technics would go down.
It's like as if Pioneer ceased to exist.
but even if they do - i couldn't care less since i'm about to upgrade to M5 and i guess that makes me covered for the next 15 years (at least).

The only statement to come from Panasonic says there are no plans to stop production. Yet music blogs are circulating the badly worded statement that is 'supposedly' a press release from Panasonic?

Has anybody thought to ask why no media outlets have received this press release? A press release is either put out there and whored to hell or it isn't. There's no such thing as a 'supposed' press release.

Technics Sl 12000 is still the best turntables that there best best vinly dj , so I believe that this is just rumours from the conmpanies such as Vestax, stanton and Pioneer as they are trying to boost their products in a market.

time will tell. There are plenty of other companies who make turntables, vinyl will never die!

Did a search on Panasonic's US pressroom page and nothing shows up... if someone could link to the press release on the Panasonic Japanese page I'd believe it... right now just seems like anothe rumour. That said, the cost of new decks has been increasing and last time I asked about them at an equipment store in NYC they mentioned they were becoming harder to get.

I can see how a company as large as Panasonic might cut this line. My guess however is that a smaller audio equipment manufacturer could purchase / license the product from them? If not, I think someone out there could probably do very well by putting together a company to build quality, exact replicas....

It could be a last ditch publicity stunt???

I'm not sure how that would work though as the Technics brand is already very established within the dj market!

I have to say though Im really not into this whole blaming cd/laptop dj's vibe.

At the end of the day if you are using the new technology to it's full capability it can be very powerful and allow dj's to create some really exciting shows, I really enjoy mixing both on Technics and with laptops tbf, if more of the music was available on vinyl then yes maybe I would use my Technics more but it isn't, many label's can't afford to take the risk on a vinyl release with many of the distributors going out of business as well.

Many dj's would rather spend £2 on a digi release than £6/£7 on vinyl which is fair enough and thats even if the record you want is being released on vinyl anyway!

It's just the climate of the market and it makes sense really, if you are a die hard only mix on vinyl dj then good for you but I've found that you simply can't get the same amount of choice on vinyl anymore, hence my switch to cdj's and laptop sets.

You also have to take into account that these turntables are bulletproof, maybe too much so for Panasonic's own good! Therefore you don't need to buy another pair every three or four years....

Well... I'll still make vinyls my self with my record label, still want to keep going with traktor and vinyl timecoded records (or even the real record). Maybe just reduce the production or? I mean, we can't let it die, at least if i can help it i wont.

someone already stated it...

if this is all true, someone is going to start manufacturing a replacement turntable that's just as good, if not better, quality wise, and then panasonic is going to feel like an asshole.

I don't think it will die completely, its fantastic to own a physical copy of your favourite music and there will always be value in that just not so much as there was, do you just release exclusively on vinyl then or mp3's as well? What genre's do you cover?
