| #4 / Wed, 10 Nov 10 10:55 why is this even news by the way? i can't fathom why this is news. you guys don't just make a new news article for every single edm album coming out do you? just ones that are pretty special. like shackleton's fabric mix or something. but this? i mean
is this RA's guilty pleasure? i can picture a bunch of middle age neckbeards in an office secretly putting on headphones to rock out to deadmau5. hahahah too bad guys, too bad.

| #5 / Wed, 10 Nov 10 11:44 I stopped reading Pitchfork so I could escape hipster logic, but I still see it every time something about the mau5 shows up. Jesus. Everybody in the electronic community takes such a shit every time he releases something.

::tongueincheek:: RA covers Deadmau5 because he pioneered/invented 1/8th notes in music...and made italo disco which uses them before anyone was born. So RA has to pay their respects. Another explanation can be: RA is independent and underground...but sometimes they like to reach out and help major label products push onwards and upwards.

| #16 / Wed, 10 Nov 10 15:32 Bit of a cock, but he's a quality producer for sure - he's made lots of tunes that have major cross over appeal (even attractive girls like them) but still appeal to plenty of heads and chin strokers too, because they are invariably very well made.
better than you haters, that's for sure.
looking forward to hearing.

| #19 / Wed, 10 Nov 10 18:20 Why is everyone hating on an electronic musician that turned things upside down when he was in his mid 20s?
He is making quality music in his house releasing it on a homemade label with no sort of major label connection. I guess it's cool to hate people when they get recognized....
What a buffoon!!! He has tricked everyone, but he wont trick me!!!! :\

| #20 / Wed, 10 Nov 10 22:44 The title 4x4=12 is reaching out to fans, as it is an inside joke to people who religiously watch his in-studio Ustream sessions.
The man takes pride in his productions and raises the bar for production value with every single release. The people who supported him through his rise to fame (99% of the electronic community) are responsible for where he is today and now they are going to turn their back on him as soon as he gets radio time? Such bullshit.
It isn't the mau5 changing, it's the idiots who only enjoy music so they can tell their friends about it. If any other artist released this album, everyone would think it was fucking gold.

| #21 / Thu, 11 Nov 10 01:02 Its a shame to see such disparaging comments directed at Deadmau5's work. Regardless of whether or not you care for his music the very fact that all of it, as NormanDuhon mentions, is written, recorded and released by Deadmau5 himself and still has the capacity to please audiences with both mainstream and more niche electronic tastes hints at a talent that would stretch beyond ordinary.
Add that to the fact that that he has crafted one of the most visually engaging live shows in electronic music, and it becomes clear, at least for any reasonably minded music fan, that Joel Zimmerman is extremely hard working, driven person and someone who deserves a far greater amount of respect than he receives on these message boards.
Comments such as undercurrent.'s, narmst12's, akuna's and dragons.mouth's, despite being so uber trendy and coolerier-than-thou, serve only to manifest the short comings in their ability to recognise an artists ambition for his work and appreciation of that ambition.
Hakra, in an inspired first comment on these boards, questions the naming of the album. Is their anymore trivial a query when it comes to an artists output?
Those comments are symptomatic of the virulent, mindless posturing at opinion of many RA readers these boards. Granted it is opinion but to carry any weight it must at the very least display a modicum of logic and consideration. But then again logic and consideration won't score hip points when the next conversation about a successful dance musician crop up.

| #22 / Thu, 11 Nov 10 04:05 Bought 'Random Album Title' largely on the back of 'Jaded' - yes it has moments, but on the whole it's boring. Gave him the benefit of the doubt and bought 'Lack of a better name', on the whole it's crap. 'Sofi' sucks. If Joel is so talented, why does he flog a dead horse. And the mask - Batman did that YEARS ago!

| #23 / Thu, 11 Nov 10 04:21 Say what you want, but Mr. Zimmerman is a master of personal branding and is playing a major role in introducing electronic/house/dubstep to a wider audience in the United States.
For myself, I appreciate his music and enjoy his live shows, which by themselves are cutting edge in terms of integrating the visual/audio experience. Rock on Joel-- don't hate!!!!

| #26 / Thu, 11 Nov 10 06:25 Apparently some people here don't understand how the music industry works. Joel doesn't get to choose what the ticket prices are going to be. The venues will charge what they want to. I have paid less than twenty dollars and I have paid almost forty. It really just depends on where he is playing. Now that he is big shit, venues will charge obscene amounts. Sure, it sucks. But what can the guy do?

| #28 / Mon, 15 Nov 10 14:50 When Deamau5 first came on the scene I quite enjoyed his sound - accessible, catchy, and well produced. But the last track of his that I heard sounded like a cynical - and incredibly cheesy - rework of Faxing Berlin. Plus, that mask routine is getting pretty old.
As RA serves as a home for the electronic music community I think he deserves his place on these boards... but I don't think anyone can be upset about people bashing him. It's called opinion.

| #29 / Tue, 16 Nov 10 14:48 I think a lot of people thought 'wow' when they first heard JZ, and yes the mask was wacky. Most real superheroes have real alter-egos, JZ can't even get that right - Moguais' and Maus' are both furry and bug eyed. True talent evolves (try David Bowie, Brian Eno or even Madonna - yes Madonna!). Move on JZ..........

| #34 / Sat, 27 Nov 10 19:30 Tis a shame a number of the tracks from it are from remixes/mixes he'd already done which are way better ("You Need a Ladder", whole Zelda vibe actually makes it - "Paco Di Bango's World" had the breaks/entertainment that "A City In Florida" desperately needs).. Overall, bit of a let down.
Deadmau5 is getting a bit samey, and overpriced, but I respect the guy for what he's achieved.

| #36 / Mon, 06 Dec 10 17:21 Its already had an 'album of the week' feature in the mainstream (i.e. non-electronic music) British press, which is incredibly impressive considering this is in no way a complete commercial sellout.
Like it or not, the combination of the music and the character works for people, but the character is effective only because the music is invariably on point. Cheesy and catchy enough for the girls, intricate and 'phat' enough for the boys.
Once again, this album and its initial reception shows that nobody in dance music is currently as adept at walking the tightrope between the popular and the credible. Infact, he makes it look incredibly easy - which it definitely isn't.

While I'm of the opinion that other DJ's need the limelight that deadmau5 is getting, it is certainly true that more people are just jumping on the bandwagon to hate on deadmau5 without careful consideration. No acclaimed DJ gets to where he/she is without some kind of talent/hard work... both of those things I respect no matter what the music sounds like. So now that he is where he is... I am interested in seeing him experiment and push the boundaries of what he usually does and to get uncomfortable. That's how he got to where he is now, I think.
