| #9 / Tue, 16 Nov 10 15:30 Too bad this won't be out in time in December. I would love to get this as a Christmas present...snarky snark snark.
In all seriousness though, the mere fact that soulfulness in the era of capitalism can be commodified implies to me that artistic endeavors at transcendentalism and the production of 'sacred' music for sale are perhaps the most profane, soulless commodities possible. The artist who sells 'soulful' music or music that assumes the affectation of religiosity or sanctity is quite literally selling his/her soul.

 | RA Review The main chunk of Terre Thaemlitz' Soulnessless is a 29 hour (plus) piano solo rendered as a single mp3. It's labeled "output.mp3," and comes with a text file that explains that the file "currently does not contain track ID (ID3 tag) information... due to the risk of software problems when opening..

| #19 / Mon, 03 Dec 12 12:24 I'm glad you did this before you left Todd, its a very good review - thank you.
Here though, and this is a remarkable feat given how regularly this is the case, is perhaps the best example of the redundancy of allocating marks out of five. Thaemlitz's work is well handled over six short paragraphs and that is a tribute to your abilities. Quite what the grading here means I do not know. Are you suggesting its a pretty good record that could be marginally improved? I can't figure what else it could mean, although I'm fairly certain that applying such a pithy exposition to a 29 hour conceptual 'meditation' doesn't really serve your ends here.
The range of music reviewed on these pages, coupled with the similarity and incremental differences in genre render these marks meaningless. They often manage to distract and undermine the writing concomitantly - no mean achievement.
Frankly I hope these marks are scrapped as soon as whoever takes over your job begins work.

| #20 / Mon, 03 Dec 12 12:32 (Edited: 3 Dec 12 12:39) to continue 'keeping in line with Thaemlitz's concerns', it would be good to switch comments off and remove the rating.

Thanks for clarifying. Sounds incredible... Don't care too much about this Soullessness project- perhaps it's even a bit too much information? But I will say Midtown 120 Blues is one of best and most important records I've ever listened to. Still on rotation after these few years When the context of the music effects you beyond just the surface, you know that's art.

| #34 / Wed, 05 Dec 12 08:16 If you put 'burzum church' or 'norweigan church on fire' into google image search you'll see the same photo. burning churches seems to be a trend among black metal people over there.

| #37 / Fri, 07 Dec 12 12:56 'you'll sometimes hear the strings of the piano or Thaemlitz's body moving this way or that'
If I'm not mistaken she entirely wrote it on a piano roll so none of this is actually live recorded.
I might be wrong but I think I read that in an interview.

ringorider, I always preferred comatonse.com. excellent service from Terre plus a straight support of the artist.
