Hi everyone, im thinking about getting a pair of dj headphones , the pioneer hdj-1000 but im not sure if i should get them, im reading some reviews and they all say that they are not that good, so im wondering which brand should i get? any recommendations? maybe denon dn hp 1000, or technics rp dh 1200, or should i stay with the pioneer?

The pioneers worked fine for me, but can be bassey, But the HDJ 2000's have more room and sturdier (so far)

I personally use panasonic AV room headphones. They're like 65 at urban outfitters. Probably the best performance headphones you can buy for 65. They have a really short cord that's perfect for having an pod in your pocket or something. I wouldn't recommend them for djing thought, because of the short cord. Also, no line volume control or active sound cancelling or amp boost on these puppies, just plain and simple durable red headphones.

Id like to hear thoughts about the new v-moda headphones though. Listened to them ar HARD summer and they were fantastic. they were also really comfy and bendable. I've seen videos of tiesto with these headphones around his neck..... So does anyone have them and would like to say a few words?

i have both the hdj 2000's and the sennheiser hd25's.

the pioneer's are by far the best quality phones i've used. huge bottom end and incredible clarity - they're great for 'normal' listening too, you can hear stuff in the music that you can't hear with other headphones.
where they fall down a bit is that they don't have great isolation.

the sennheisers sound less detailed in comparison to the pio's - not a bad thing as you are only listening to a few frequency bands when djing. they are still excellent headphones though and have much higher sound isolation so i think they're a better choice for playing out. they are also half the price of the hdj2000's.

i rarely play out so the pioneer's are perfect for me at home where i can't always crank up the monitors and have to mix in the headphones & sound isolation doesn't matter.

the best advice is to go to a store where you can listen to a few pairs - take along some tracks burnt to cd so you can really get a good idea of how they sound, relevant to you.

the sennheiser hd-25 II have been the best headphones although i have some problems with the factory cable (the plug to the mixer) because sometimes it stops hearing from one side and you just have to plug it or move it but you can always fix that problem buying a new cable which is great because it's 3 times longer and far more quality and durable… once these wore out i'll try the hdj-2000 to see how they work out allthough i think its overpriced for dj headphones which you use every 2 years…

I've gone through a wide range of headphones, and have determined that the only way to decide is to get a pair with super wide frequency range. It will be one of those features not all brands include in descriptions.

The pair I have now has a 5Hz - 30kHz range. You hear ALL the bass, and ALL the treble, where as headphones with 25hz to 24khz would cut out a bunch of frequency in the sound, thus not sounding as clear and concise, or nearly as good.

Additionally, pretty much any headphones with these extended ranges will come equipped with a decibel level output suitable for clubs and live events, as well as mixing/producing.

Hope this helps!

HDJ-1000s tend to break easily. The wires often break. and there are other issues with the head band to the ear pieces.

i'd say Sennheiser HD 25-1 II or Allen & Heath XD-53...boh around 200$, the senn's have been around for a decade, lots of dj's using it., pretty much indestructible and just in case every piece of it is user- replaceable...those are keepers

On-topic: Sennheiser HD 25-1 II
Off-topic: Technics are great but have been discontinued. I wouldn't recommend it. Also, the HDJ 2000 are really nice but too pricey.

Yea, I've been using the Sony 7506 headphones for a few years as well. I do really like Sennheisers but the 7506 just feels much more comfy on my head.

I think the 7509 has just got a slightly bigger driver. ;)

The Sennheiser HD25s are awesome. The break up nicely into separate parts so that they don't break in transit, the replacement parts are also easy to get a hold of, and most importantly they are the best h-phones ever!

I have the Technics RP-DH 1200's but prior to that I had the Pioneer 1000's the first set of pioneers snapped after a year and the second pair less than a year, hence why a changed to technics. Both have good sound quality tho and I enjoyed using the pioneer's.

If you're into studio monitor headphones, then give the Audio Technica ATH-M50 a shot; one of the best purchases I've ever made. Have a read on places like gearslutz etc. for some view/reviews. You won't be dissapointed!

I use Ultrasone DJ1 Pro for DJ , studio work and general listening to stuff, great if not the best sounding DJ headphones on the market. The large size and design might not be to everyone's tastes but they are well built , lightweight and extremely comfortable. They come with loads of extras too like cables , ear pads and a hard carry case. worth a look

Ok, so i've finally decided on getting a new pair of headphones and after quite a bit of research I seem to be coming back to the ol' classics, Sennheiser HD25s.
The only thing I can't seem to get any info on is what the sound leakage is like for these? i.e If i'm listening to some music, how much can those around me hear what I am? I've heard they're pretty good at cutting out stuff coming in, so I guess they cut a lot of the stuff coming out too? Cheers for the help!

Give the AIAIAI tma-1's a listen Housey. Sexy as hell. A broad, lively soundstage. Deep at the low-end and tight at the top. Had HD25's and tma-1's for a side-by-side comparison. Used on iPod (320mbp mp3's and WAV) and gigged with both on my Traktor Kontrol S4. tma-1's are sublime.

Cheers for the recommendation JB - the TMA-1's certainly look like they mean the business too, great looking cans - and from what i've heard they sound it to! The Audio-Technica M50's were also ones I gave consideration too.

My pleasure. Do a 'headphone' search in the threads under General Discussion on www.djtechtools.com - there's PLENTY of info there. The HD25's are certainly very popular. Personally I'm not a big Sennheiser fan.

yeah those pioneer's are really not that good, and too bulky

you cant go wrong with the sound qualify of the Sennheiser's for djing

they are made for djing and the bass isn't too heavy so leaves it clear to mix with the kick and the hats and drums.

Technics RP-DJ1200
Sennheiser HD25 (I use SP for studio)
Ultrasone DJ1 PRO

Tried Pioneer HDJ1000 and Sony V600 & 700 too, they are all comfortable and sound ok but from my experience they break after heavy work flow.

The AIAIAI TMA-1 Headphone is the best out there at the moment:

The Pioneer & Sony headphones always breaks at the same place. The hd-25 could use more bass

Technics RP-DH1200! I bought mine in nov/2009 and it's still lasting up to today, with the same quality as well... Sony will fall apart after a while, plus, they have a MAJOR issue in regards to fake phones. I have a friend who bought Sony headphones straight from a sony dealer store and turns out to be fake. They are aware of this issue... Sennheiser is nice as well... but maybe too expensive for only doing DJ mixes.

http://www.headphone.com is a great website to read reviews of different headphones. I'm sure there are tons of newer models at this point but my favorite sub $100 full sized sealed headphone was the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro. I'm pretty sure they can still hold their own against new models though they aren't exactly a "DJ" headphone by design. Anyway, check out the site. It should be a little bit of a help.
