well. we know one of the oldest pieces of dj wisdom is "know your records". here, we will get a mix of tracks which heidi could not really know when she picked them, since they did not even exist at the time (even considering she knew their originators well). i am curious how - or if at all - this will work out.

This is one of the most batshit crazy sentences I've read on RA. Are you making Heidi out to be some kind of paradoxical time travelling DJ?

agreed, most of the mixes that are pressed with similar backgrounds (dj's having to use certain records) just don't turn out to be as good as the mixes that are put together with no real boundaries!

heidi's a great dj, would have been a great chance to produce a mix filled with 'jacking' jems from the record collection! opportunity missed? maybe? we will see when its released!

well, either this or you just did not really get what that news article is about. so, once again, for the cerebrally challenged:

heidi wants, like, a deetron track for her mix.
heidi calls up deetron and asks deetron for a fresh and exclusive track.
so, when heidi picked the deetron track, she actually had not heard a single note of that deetron track, since deetron first had to sit down and create that track.
and it was just the same with all the other artists' tracks.
got it?

"paradoxical time travelling DJ"... pffft.

Just found an Audio interview of Heidi talking about the whole point of this jackathon thing online

you can hear her interview here, eqtv.dj/sounds/heidi-audio-interview/
she said she knew she wont have heard the tracks and that was the fun part

i bought the mix on cd and its awesome, takes you on a right little jackin journey

Heidi - Heidi Presents The Jackathon cover
RA Review
A couple years ago, while sitting on a dance music writing panel, I was asked why RA had declared New York house music "back" a few years ago. The person asking came from deep house's bedrock-traditionalist end, and the idea of the music mutating via new hands and the interests of a non-traditionali..

Great compilation - one of this year's finest (if not best).

Captures Heidi's energy as DJ really well, there's a palpable sense of excitment running through this CD.

have to agree with you fully, great album and great review.
at a time when everyone is jumping on the bandwagon of boring disco edits and deep house that is better for your car stereo than the dancefloor, Heidi has pulled off an album of quality tracks that have energy and excitement but are still very underground and current sounding

I first heard Darius Syrossian 'i am the creator of jack' when the Visionquest guys were playing it, what an awesome track, also the waifs & strays track is a bomb.
the cd album is really nice too with a little booklet featuring all the artists on it.

Interestingly, most of the best current artists who evoke the feeling of old jacking house are not included on here. Where are Tevo Howard, Disco Nihilist, Noleian Reusse, Chicago Skyway, etc?

I didn't like the fact that you didn't mention the simply amazing 'Incoming Bitch (Get Low!)' track (I'm not a fan of Hip-Hip like sounds on House, but this one just blows everything else). But the review is far better than expected. I took you guys a while to review it, but with a lovely 4 out of 5, I'm happy.

I thought this got reviewed ages ago. Anyway, looks nice will check it out. Mix CD still going strong, look at the last 3 reviews. Happy Days.

pipecock wins. I like Heidi, but this mix was really flat for using the term 'jack' so loosely. I expected a beatdown of some proper modern acid and 808/909 jack shit. Not rehashed mid-2000s mnml.

To be fair, there are still some good tracks on here for sure. But a lot of them just don't make me want to jack. At all.

I love this compilation, and i'm glad all the tracks are not all 808 and 909 acid leads, it would have sounded too much of an attempt to copy cat original old skool jackin house, and that would not be good,

But i like a lot of the tracks on here for being current yet
lean towards that jackin vibe, Defo at least 4/5 for me

Jack's always coming back, but Bug's closest to Marc Romboy's 2005 Jack return:
