Murphy Jax - We Dance cover
RA Review
After records for Clone Jack For Daze and My Favorite Robot, Berlin's Murphy Jax joins Tiga's Turbo Recordings with another EP of classically-minded house. "We Dance" is winsome and wistful, with cool organ tones underpinning a lilting string melody, and a hushed voice intoning a kind of one-person..

We Dance (original mix) didn't have much depth. Basic kick/hats and synth line w/out much variation + a coupla synth breaks w/ a forgettable vocal thrown in. Altogether a bland track.

Time to Bump (original mix) = really dude? You just used that same kick on We Dance. If that's not lazy production, I don't know what is. Thank goodness for the acidic synth line b/c it kept me listening. The vocal certainly didn't. The break could've been the end of the song for all I cared but once the electro-like drum track kicked in I did crack a small smile. At least it made the rest of the track bearable. Walsh and Zhao's remix of Time to Bump is infinitely better than the original. It made me want to skip the middleman (Murhpy Jax) and turn my ear to their releases instead.

We dance original and the Freak Seven remix are fun. And to Philo1, if you think using the same kick in 2 tracks is lazy, never listen to Gesaffelstein.

I should probably qualify that and say "using the same kick on two tracks on the same EP could be perceived as lazy production.

@ Philo1.....please tell me what are your thoughts about a producer that "samples" a kick?

Sampling a nice kick sound is fine.
