Modeselektor - Monkeytown cover
RA Review
Modeselektor have had their fingers in all flavours of pies in the past few years, but it seemed like the Berlin duo moved from lovably kooky oddballs to scene-spanning stalwarts pretty much overnight. Their Modeselektion compilation showcased a wide-ranging taste, pulling exclusive tracks from wh..

Best Record of the year for me. So diverse and entertaining
The bass of this album is just ridiculously saturated.

And their new live show is mindblowing...

The first three tracks are pretty much perfect (the bass on Pretentious Friends = woah), but it's a bit uneven for me after that. Evil Twin, Humanized and the Greenlight Go are the tracks I don't particularly care for, but the rest is so good. 3.5 or 4/5 for me, but relative to the RA scale, a 4.5 seems appropriate and deserved.

Love this album. So much variation, but very cohesive listening experience. High quality control too.

Hmm. I'll be honest. I downloaded it illegally, and deleted it after 4 tracks. Reminded me of awful Four Tet/Gui Borrato stuff.

Awesome album. Well back on form after the lacklustre Happy Birthday!

Love these guys but if you think about the first album and how that led the scene, this album feels very much a response to a (UK Bass for the most part) scene. Still a good album but 3.5 for me....I enjoy their DJ selections more than their productions these days. I'm sure the remix package could be very tasty though.

Busdriver is not Canadian. The reviewer is thinking of Cadence Weapon.

TheTom. You're an idiot. Firstly, for downloading an album for free. Secondly, for advertising it. Thirdly for thinking Four Tet, Gui Borrato and Modeselektor sound anything alike. What is wrong with you, man? I mean, really. Shocking display of idiocy.

I guess I'm another shocking display of idiocy, also downloaded the album for free, (I'm advertising it ) and also erased it after 5 tracks... the difference is I think four tet sounds much better than this

Not a bad album but definitely not their best. 4.5 is probably a bit generous. 3.5 would be my rating.

Modeselektor really need to stop using Thom Yorke on vocals. It's the complete opposite to what their music is, or used to be, about.

I've gotta say this is disappointing! For me the only track I'd actually pay for is 'German Clap'. Other than that, it's a bit by the numbers and not really pushing anything on...shame as I really rate these guys, although Moderat is far better than their own efforts I think.

these guys are innovators but this LP is quite diappointing. cliche and worn out ideas. and busdrivers rap is utterly horrible

I've been preaching the gospel of Modeselektor for years now and was greatly looking forward to this release., but I haven't listened to this as much as I'd hoped. Sounds a little too clean at times, and their sharp production is one of the things I love most about them. I think really it's the Busdriver vocals that throw a wrench in it for me...coming down off the high points of Blue Sky into that mess is just a tough sell. TTC (or an instrumental version) would have been a much better and welcome fit, in my opinion. There's still some pretty great stuff on here though and the sound is a pretty logical progression from their last album. These guys produce so much great stuff all over the map that when you throw this album on to the pile of their collected works what is gold will continue to shine, where as the scuff marks and strays will quickly be forgotten.

I agree with the reviewer and some of the comments, but i'm gonna wait a while and let it sink, see 'm live next week @ Bozar electronic weekend in brussels.

look, Berlin is loosing it's edge, they can't party illegal near the spree anymore, face it, times change.
Apparat's depression is affecting every one!
