 | RA Review London's Kwes Darko is a bit of an outsider: you don't see his name on very many party flyers, and his uniquely hazy hip-hop is likely to find more luck with stoners than dancers. He admits he's less interested in making "beats" than the artists he's often associated with. His early work garnered..

| #5 / Fri, 14 Oct 11 14:08 (Edited: 14 Oct 11 14:45) The guy is obviously very talented, but this is just painfully mediocre and instantly forgettable. Except for a couple of tracks (Descend, Psyche Inquiry, first 2 minutes or so of Firewall), the entire album sounds like one long, boring interlude. Doubly disappointing considering how insanely good his first couple of EPs were. 2/5.

| #6 / Fri, 14 Oct 11 14:50 Also, this doesn't really apply to Blue Daisy, but a few tracks on this LP really made me wish the new wave of producers would ease up on the unnecessary use of excessive reverb. It's basically turned into a cheap gimmick now, especially in the more indie/pop side of electronic music.

| #8 / Fri, 14 Oct 11 15:32 I for one consider this one of the best albums ever, I wasn't a fan of blue daisy when I first heard him and wrote off several of his EPs as incredibly average, being the dedicated music-lover I am though, I went back to them after a few months and noticed the extreme depth to his music. The album only added to this view, it's a serious headspace album that you need to be, in short, smart to fully appreciate. 9/10 for me!

| #10 / Fri, 14 Oct 11 17:46 3.5? This is a serious contender for album of the year! I absolutely love how 90's it sounds. I guess when you get to be a certain age, you start to long for the sounds that you grew up on. I love new music, but for me, electronic music was in it's prime in the 90's. Underworld, Chemical Brothers, Tricky, Massive Attack, Fat Boy Slim, 90's house and techno, jungle, early Warp stuff... Hip-hop was at it's best, and rock would never be as good again.
To me, this album symbolizes all of that. It is vast, it is expansive, it has depth that requires multiple listens and above all it takes it's cues from an era that often gets overlooked by anyone who didn't come into musical age in that one brief synapse in time when everything came together perfectly.
The Sunday Gift is Big Beat. It is Hip-hop. It is Trip-Hop. It is Grunge. It is Stoner Metal. It is Psych Rock. It is House. It is blissful electronics that come together in a beautiful soundscape. In short, it is close to perfection.

Agreed @ Rezerkted23. I imagine its difficult to make something experimental like this, yet have song structure to it, and a strong musical feel. So you have this heavy experimental side, yet its balanced by this welcoming musical touch. Great production values, eclectic range, and sound design....songs.
4.5/5 +new fan

| #15 / Wed, 19 Oct 11 02:32 This is top 3 in my book for 2011 so far. This picks up the torch from Massive Attack and runs with it. Im not sure how the reviewer came up with 3.5/5 - tough grader, Id like to hear some of his 4.5 reviews
