| RA News 50 Weapons will release the low-key techno/bass hybrid's first album next month.

 | RA Review Briefly appearing with three mysterious self-released EPs of dark, lean dubstep menace, Anstam sadly disappeared in 2009 back into the ghostly realm from whence they came before we could properly size them up. That's why their unexpected return on Modeselektor's 50 Weapons label was such a lovely su..

| #7 / Sat, 05 Nov 11 04:26 I read all these great comments so I had to listen myself. And I agree, I'm intrigued. I'll definitely listen to this again. 'Dispel Dances' sounds and feels complete.

UK Bass = Post Dubstep = Bass Music Critics/journalists have been fumbling around for a name to describe the wide variety of bass oriented music that's been coming out over the last few years that doesn't conform to the classic dubstep sound (being repped by Mala, Jack Sparrow etc.) or house or techno, and unfortunately, UK Bass is the one they've decided to stick to for now. Why UK? I guess because the sound originated there. Does it mean artists outside the UK can still make UK Bass? Seeing that Anstam is from Germany - yes. So what's the difference between Bass, UK Bass and Post-Dubstep? Nothing.

| #9 / Sat, 05 Nov 11 08:38 On topic - Good review. Fascinating album.
I'm actually a bit shocked by how good this is....was immediately hooked after a minute of the first track (the best thing on the LP imo and probably the most enjoyably creepy track I've heard all year) and the quality somehow stays on that level or close to it throughout the album's duration.
Anyone else get a Kangding Ray - OR vibe from this? I think it's probably just the compression on the drums because OR is cleaner and more moody than creepy, but that's the first comparison that came to mind.

| #11 / Sun, 06 Nov 11 09:00 Yeah I happen to agree, to an extent. I think that there is certainly an interest amongst a small measure of scattered producers in this dark undercurrent that electronic music has, it's especially prevalent in industrial music. You should check out the recent Raime FACT mix for an example.
