| #7 / Tue, 13 Sep 11 17:03 Meh. Does every new CD have to be some mix of techy dubstep with some garage-type deep house with a classic or two thrown in?
Ben UFO Gold Panda Scuba Four Tet
I'm sure this'll be enjoyable and I bet I buy it (like the other listed above), but this is how things get so stale so quickly - too many doing the same thing.
Just my two cents..

| #9 / Tue, 13 Sep 11 19:59 really haven't been a fan of any gold panda productions (zzz), so i'm a bit stunned to see such sick tracks on this release... 'puerto rican girls' 'andaean sand dunes' .... also those pawel, sigha and zomby tracks are cool...
agree with what jonathan says but this might be interesting

| #13 / Wed, 14 Sep 11 04:17 I'll add one clarifying point.... when someone like Ben UFO does it, I have confidence. He, afterall, helped create this whole "genre" out of his own label, his usage of older Todd Edwards and the like tracks, and a few other random tidbits mixed in. His mixes always amazed me. I just worry that the fantastic style that it is will be watered down by those who try to do the same with subpar results - ala minimal, prog, disco edits, and every other trend that caught on and got crushed despite having great moments.

| #14 / Wed, 14 Sep 11 07:59 The tracklist...wow. While mixing a variety of genres is pretty much the norm these days, this seems pretty eclectic even by current standards. Some of these transitions are going to be interesting to say the least:
Melchior & Pronsato -- Bok Bok -- Drexciya Pawel -- Untold -- SND -- Zomby 2562 -- Matthewdavid
The trainwreck possibilities are pretty high here, but there's also a chance that this might be amazing.

 | RA Review The music of Gold Panda got lumped in with the American chillwave posse early on, likely because of the twee nature of his moniker and the patchy, homemade aspect of his first album's artwork. 2010's Lucky Shiner , however, showcased frank leanings for subdued techno and Plaid-informed IDM, and nat..

| #18 / Tue, 13 Dec 11 11:50 I disagree completely: this dj kicks is a delight. And shows much more criteria in track selection and music enjoyment than the reviewer seems to have. But anyway, I never understood what you people at RA have against Gold Panda.

| #23 / Tue, 13 Dec 11 14:53 ill be honest, i didnt like this mix at all either. i love gold panda's productions, but this mix was uneventful for the most part.
i would recommend apparat's dj kicks from last year, that is a great mix and i still listen to it.

| #24 / Tue, 13 Dec 11 14:55 yeah i liked it too. wouldnt be surprised if i do too again. what's wrong with restraint? quite like a mix that turns around on itself and thinks after it's felt

| #26 / Tue, 13 Dec 11 15:22 http://www.residentadvisor.net/review-view.aspx?id=8190 Maybe hate is a bit of a strong word.. But Lucky Shiner is a class album, and not just a poor man's 'From here we go sublime'.

| #27 / Tue, 13 Dec 11 16:15 Thank you RA for reconfirming my original thought on this mix. P'fork gave it 7.6 which was much too high. I tried, but just couldn't get into it. And I was trying to be optimistic because I really like GP's drum and bass production style.
I guess I am not one for mixtapes. I can't remember one I actually enjoyed in the last 7-8 years. Artists are better off releasing studio sets with their own edits, rather than releasing what they enjoy.
