 | RA Review "I do not exclaim," Scuba tweeted a few months back in response to music journos ascribing extra enthusiasm to the producer in interview transcripts. And Paul Rose's music—techy, sullen, inward-looking—has traditionally fit this character profile: neither his dark debut album A Mutual Antipathy..

| #2 / Thu, 22 Sep 11 07:40 I wouldn't say "HUGE" but just timeless, nothing too obvious but nothing to great..just enough for it to age timelessly and my children's children to talk about it as a ..."hey man, this is a classic from 2011" record.

I love that.

| #4 / Thu, 22 Sep 11 08:43 This sounds like a funkyer Paul Kalkbrenner. And that is no compliment.
I also don`t get the hype with his "Feel It" track. For me one of the most annoying tracks been played at the moment.

| #7 / Thu, 22 Sep 11 09:37 Forgetable? It hasn't come out of my mind playlist since the first time I heard it. Genius tune. The three of them. 5/5 for me, for the use of echoes, the tension they generates, and just because I want more from Scuba realizing how good he is turning to be at this kind of house.

| #8 / Thu, 22 Sep 11 09:37 Pre-ordered this but expect it will be played to death and get tired. Hope not though cos I'm loving it at the moment!

| #9 / Thu, 22 Sep 11 09:51 Nice review. I was surprised by the sound of this too. It'll be interesting to see if others start running with it too, or if people decide it's a step in the wrong direction.

| #12 / Thu, 22 Sep 11 10:53 i don't ever post on tracks but this is fucking doing it for me big time. been playing it for a couple of months and adrenalin is the track of the year for me, just the right side of cheese, amazing samples, killer bassline. a welcome relief from the generic trendy techno banded about

Maybe you mean disposable?
Cos this track is perfectly pleasant and would certainly sound amazing on the floor - in a housed up Hyph Mngo kinda way - but unambitious from an artistic sense. I mean, this guy released A Mutual Antipathy and is head of the most forward-facing record label in the UK, so the retro feel of his last few releases is a little disappointing.

| #19 / Thu, 22 Sep 11 12:50 Adrenalin is nice and enjoyable, but... Posted by ey1989I want the old Scuba back This is definitely well produced and certainly a lot better than Feel It (which I hated), but I hope Scuba doesn't stick to this sound for too long because this could get old very, very quickly.

| #24 / Thu, 22 Sep 11 13:40 blah blah i love it, maybe it's not the typical scuba sound but that's great. plus i love freestyle and the subtle 80's pop sounds in the tracks, it's a feel good ep.

| #26 / Thu, 22 Sep 11 14:37 Really surprised at how much everyone is feeling this (but then, who am I other than another talking head?)
I really think that Adrenalin is very poor, Loss is far superior. And I happen to play out Feel It quite alot (though you'd probably be pushing it playing that vocal beyond the 3 minute mark).
Anyway, I rinse alot of Scuba's stuff, which is routinely excellent, but I can't get with this at all, nor the B-sides. Sorry.

It depends. If it had the Synkro or xxxy names behind, the review at residentadvisor would have given a 2 out of five. I would love it the same, anyway. Risingson, who does not mind about a track being house, trance, techno, dubstep or whatever.

| #31 / Thu, 22 Sep 11 15:41 No, really, people, I don't understand you. Why you say it's a guilty pleasure? What is what makes you think this is too comercial or too cheesy? Do you ever listen to any music that isn't just, let's say, cerebral stuff? Do you go to confess when you find yourselves singing a pop tune?

| #37 / Fri, 23 Sep 11 11:07 All these genre tags mask the fact that he's been hard at working ripping samples from Biggest Hits of '93. So much 90's chart dance in them tunes but twisted in that Hotflush style. Great EP

| #45 / Mon, 26 Sep 11 04:43 I think that these songs sound much better in the context of a house mix. As stand alone tracks they don't really do it for me. They are too long and trancey.
2.5/5 for me

| #47 / Mon, 26 Sep 11 21:23 Considering I have pretty much never listened to any Scuba before, I like this release as a distinct entity.
There is something about the synth work that has a certain retro Underworld sense of joy and good times about it.
Someone coming wanting Scuba but house would probably not feel the vibe so much.

| #50 / Tue, 27 Sep 11 19:54 Yeah, completely second the "funkier Paul Kalkbrenner" comment. Sounds like shit to these ears labeled as a Scuba record/sounds like shit not thinking of it as a Scuba record.
