| #6 / Wed, 21 Sep 11 23:17 Can't wait; Henke is one of the most technically gifted producers out there. His engineering skills are second to none in electronic music, and I can't wait to hear what he has cooked up given the advancements in technology.

| #18 / Thu, 22 Sep 11 13:58 I've had the pleasure to read more of the text that will be included in the full LP - it continues the plot from the short excerpt included on 'Silence' cover. and it seems like bits'n'pieces of hell of a story.

| #19 / Thu, 22 Sep 11 15:37 One of my favorite electronic projects ever... every new Monolake album is a must, I know it's going to be quality as always. Silence was amazing... Henke can't do no wrong.

 | RA Review A little over two years ago, Robert Henke released Silence , the seventh Monolake album and the first in what has recently been revealed as a trilogy of full-length works. The sounds of Silence came with a fragment of writing that provided a cinematic element to that album's lush, delicate atmosp..

| #30 / Tue, 28 Feb 12 16:03 mmmmmmm, its OK, just OK. Nothing groundbreaking in the Monolake world and to me, it sounds too crisp. I'm a bit disappointed to be honest.

| #33 / Tue, 28 Feb 12 21:45 dissappointed.. maybe it needs to grow on me, but didnt really find much.. too dry to me... its kind of funny feeling, it sounds like monolake when im listening but it does not really have his rhythms, tension and atmosphere.. maybe its a good thing, but it lacks what other albums had :/

| #34 / Wed, 29 Feb 12 00:54 I'm loving it... it's better than Silence, imo. Darker and with some more variety. I dont look for old sounds and nostalgia when I listen to Monolake, I wait for innovation and music that goes forward Hitting the Surface, Existence of Time, Ghosts.. the higher points for me. Henke did it again.

This is exactly how I feel, especially about the rhythms. It's a fascinating album on a conceptual level and the sound design is brilliant as one would expect (although I think he goes overboard with the tricks in some tracks), but it never ever quite clicks as a piece of music for me. With that said, I've already heard this LP three times and I have a feeling I'll keep going back to it because there's something weirdly alluring about it. Or maybe that's just my mind playing tricks convincing me to look for something that isn't there.

| #40 / Wed, 29 Feb 12 19:17 the album tries to look like its an amazing piece of modern electronic music with a lot of experimentations , but on the exit we have got a kind of poor musical experience where those experiments ruin as they try to build up in a logical structure
dissappointed

| #47 / Fri, 02 Mar 12 05:08 Monolake is singular in electronic music history. Robert Henke has managed to completely occupy a particular space in the genre that leaves no room for imitators.
Of course, the space that he occupies is not one that appeals to all, and it's clear that he's never been interested in that. "Too digital," as one dilettante observes right on this page. For Pete's sake, Robert Henke was a co-creator of Ableton Live!
If you started following electronic music out of fascination for the endless array of sounds that machines can make, this will be right up your alley. If you're more into the club scene, you should still give it a shot, but just keep an open mind along the way.

I think the reason why others and myself are saying "too crisp" or "too digital" is that in a recent interview he said he has stopped using field recordings (for Ghosts) in favor for creating his own sounds. You can tell, it just sounds over worked.

I think the reason why others and myself are saying "too crisp" or "too digital" is that in a recent interview he said he has stopped using field recordings (for Ghosts) in favor for creating his own sounds. You can tell, it just sounds over worked. well, from his website: "I recorded and transformed sounds from objects I found in my flat; glasses, paper, thin plastic sheets, stones, pebbles in a salad bowl and so on. I believe I became a pretty good foley artist by doing so. The track 'Taku' mainly consists of recordings I made with two empty glasses clicking at each other, and 'Unstable Matter' is an exercise in applying complex transformations to all kinds of recordings: a bunch of vintage cymbals, my own voice, metal plates, singing bowls, bells, and a rusty hi-hat. " that said, i think a good way to appreciate this album (instead of focusing strictly on 'sound design') is to see it as a middle part of a trilogy. i don't think there's been such an explicit cinematic link between any monolake albums in the past, so i'm excited to see how henke finishes this story.
