I'm fairly conflicted with how I feel about Hospital's recent work. Here I'm referring to High Contrast's recent collaboration with Tiesto, along with other populist acts. Certainly it shows that Hospital has been very successful as a label to attract so much attention, I just don't want that attention to drown out the quality music of its past.
Thankfully they still have some institutionalized creativity - the Russian Microfunk Crew's Bop working with the label has been a highlight, as well as the continued release of 'New Blood' albums, showcasing the best tracks from up and coming artists, some of which are played on the occasional 'demo cast' podcast.

| #2 / Wed, 09 Nov 11 13:05 from 2000 to 2005 this label was by far the best in d & b, this was when they really had the "fast soul music" nailed. I think they have gone steadily downhill since say 2007, far to commercial sounding, all this synth, electro stuff is pants imo, the music is called drum & bass, focus on those elements & you can't go wrong.

 | RA Review Since its founding in 1996 by drum & bass duo London Elektricity, Hospital Records has become a prominent force in both the genre's underground and overground worlds. Part of a realm of labels and entities pushing drum & bass into explicitly pop and quasi-mainstream territory (see also Breakbeat Kao..

High Contrast & Logistics have always been way overrated imo. Hospital is the equivalent of d&b's pop label for people who aren't bass heads. The 00's saw the over saturation of the dnb marketplace with flavor of the week tunes lacking any substance & Hospital records was at the vanguard of that movement.

| #4 / Fri, 02 Dec 11 13:57 I think Jonnyh179 hits the nail on the head.... A once great label that has struggled with the transition from underground to mainstream. Quality control is lacking these days. some good but far too much bad.
But to say it's a label for people who aren't bass heads (Navalverde) is ridiculous. The Hospitality parties at Herbal used to be immense and everyone that used to go were proper bass heads.
Ohh how I miss Herbal - the London scene has been lacking a club as good as it was in it's prime for a long time now.

Your comment reminded me of one of their greatest songs in my opinion - London Elektricity's "Fast Soul Music"Still sounds good

| #6 / Sat, 03 Dec 11 09:34 There are two things about Hospital: first, what jonnyh179 said, that it was the best from 2000 to 2005 (the second London Elektricity album, first and second albums of High Contrast, first album of Nu:Tone...) and then the quality of their own acts were downhill, or maybe the previous releases were too good. That's what I missed the most about this compilation: more tracks from the "golden" years. Now they are still interesting, but as it happens with this compilation, very irregular in a whole.

| #8 / Tue, 20 Nov 12 15:16 (Edited: 2 Mar 13 22:10) In my humble opinion i thought this was a good album/compilation. Yes its patchy in parts but thats far out weighed by the quality of the output within this. If they want to take the label in a more mainstream direction I’m sure that would be respected and good luck to them, but decent release never the less.
