Ha ha spot on...all this 'art form' bollocks did make me laugh a bit. it's just fucking music...nothing to be serious about Yeah... that mentality breeds stagnation. It's good to just "enjoy the music", and to not be so serious, but if no one steps up to the plate to innovate, you get what we have now. If you think that the state of the "movement" is fine, cool. keep having fun. The scene needs people who are only concerned with having a great time and not being too serious. However, it will stagnate and perish if everyone adopts that attitude. It all comes down to what you're in it for. I listened to the mix again and stand by my words. The mix is not bad at all. It's quite passable actually, but what about it is ground breaking? Maybe most people don't want ground breaking. Perhaps they just want to not be too serious, and just enjoy whatever is presented to them. In a weird way, I fully understand your point of view. I think though, that it's pretty tough to demand "innovation" from every single mix that we hear. Especially on a site like this, one that caters to a really large audience with a huge range of interests. Not all DJs will present the same tunes in the same way, and non-innovation is not the same as stagnation. Music is always evolving regardless of what we think; sometimes it's slower than at other times. True about Chicago house for example, wouldn't you say? There are a couple of things that I'd like to put out there, for the sake of healthy argument: * There is not only one music scene or movement * All kinds of DJing presents music in one way or another * Transitioning and "mixing" (your definition anyway) are in fact on the same spectrum and are not so different * This is a site about music and not the "art" of DJing * "Innovation" is subjective - to some, the connection of unlikely tunes was innovative! In fact, it's all subjective, which is why I am not dismissing your points at all. But when we hear someone like BenUFO stitch together a completely mind-blowing set of incredible tunes, it's a bit of a party-pooper to say, "yeah, but it's not new." And "all he did" was transition through some incredible music. Same can be said for this set by Agoria, which I admit I really enjoyed. And I already know most of the tracks! The bottom line is this: you didn't feel this mix. And that's all right. But other people heard different, exciting things in the set! agree with a lot of the points you've both raised. would love to hear some good examples from amir? cheers

| #103 / Wed, 22 Feb 12 14:09 Posted by bhbognar Please, let RA.300 be pieced together by a reliable veteran like Daniel Bell or some supa-young whiz kid we've never heard of.
Anyway, it's just a random number. Pretty soon we'll be screaming for tons of TB-303 for an RA.303 special. I'd like to see someone demanding Goth-Trad or Rondenion for an RA.311 mix or something. Maybe I just did that. Yep.
I'm looking forward to RA.808

| #107 / Wed, 22 Feb 12 19:23 Expected a lot. Honestly.. it disappointed a little. some nice tracks and the start was interesting.. kind of dies off after that. it didnt make a whole lot of sense to me as a mix. wasnt for me but i'm sure there's plenty of people that loved it

| #108 / Wed, 22 Feb 12 20:08 Every time I see a mix of his I think, "Great track list!"
Then I'm always a bit disappointed by the execution...it's always a bit too busy, some of the transitions feel unnatural or stitched together and there just seems to be something lacking as far as direction.

I'm looking forward to RA.808 See you around in about ten years, then. There will be a few new sets and musical styles in the meantime!

The bottom line is this: you didn't feel this mix. And that's all right. But other people heard different, exciting things in the set! nice answer, for my part, music is creativity. As a DJ putting track after track, creativity is all the ways he uses so as to highlight some important parts, points, instruments... of songs. I expect a DJ to make me feel good and have a good day after hearing something incredible which can't go out from my cortex and make smile just thinking about it. As human, so as someone who gets fed up of everything you're used to listen, see .... i think that i expect unintentionally something new to listen, so I care about technicals. It depends, of your approach of music, what you expect. But i think, focusing first on the technical aspect of a mix, you're more likely to get pissed because it's a judgment approach. Sometimes, you're just listening songs, mixes working about stuff in a way that music is not your first thing to think, and suddenly you wake up thinking the music is huge after dancing mechanically for few minutes. Your judgement was off, just feelings Anyway, you didn't like so much and it's your choice. and my part is subjective |

| #120 / Fri, 24 Feb 12 03:08 Posted by Amir_Alexander Some decent tracks no doubt. Seems like it could have been done without the computer with similar results. These days most people comment on the tracks. I personally listen to what the DJ is actually doing. Safe transitioning from one track to another is not it for me personally. That is a very rudimentary approach. To each his own of course. Most people seem to enjoy that style of presenting records. I have to stop short of calling it mixing, because the majority of selectors don't mix. They transition. Many top DJ/Selectors really aren't doing anything interesting with the records. They haven't been for so long that most clubbers are now trained to just accept it. The importance has been put on getting unreleased and exclusive tracks to provide the people with something new to hear.... That's fine, more power to them. Hopefully there are a few people out there who would get into a DJ who creates new sounds, by actually mixing records, bringing different approaches/ways of putting tracks together, and actually innovating new styles/concepts. There are some DJ's out there who are really advancing the art form, but I wonder if the public at large is ready to expect more, or are we all cool to stay with the status quo. This is not a dis, nor am I saying that this mix, or others like it are bad. It's just not my cup of tea. To anyone who might be offended, please don't? I mean no harm. Just trying to provoke thought. Peace
surely you can't expect some so-called creative mixing when he only had limited choice of tracks for this mix? his commercial mixes have this creative mixing in case you haven't noticed.

| #121 / Fri, 24 Feb 12 10:36 (Edited: 24 Feb 12 10:45) Once upon a time, The Lion, King of the Jungle, call all animals at the wild forest . Then he said : - Animals... I gonna make a huge party... All the animals get wild, but the toad ask :- And it gonna be in 320 kbps ? The Lion said : - It will be with great music, famous DJ's and Porno Stars... And the toad asked : In 320 kbps... ? The Lion, allready fed up with the toad, said :- Every animals are invited, ... less that short and green one... All the animals looked to the toad... Then the toad said :- Fuck the crocodile, there is with 320 kbps or what ???
