Got a couple of the tracks jammed in my head already and I only heard the Soundcloud clips a few times. Can't wait to receive the LP tomorrow, the clips sounded staggering!

 | RA Review For an artist with so many aliases, it's striking how instantly recognizable Shed's music can be. Whether he's doing straight-up techno, dubstep or the abstract vignettes of his last album The Traveller , the stony-faced stare of Rene Pawlowitz is never too hidden. But with two albums under the She..

| #66 / Fri, 27 Jul 12 17:03 After reading a handful of reviews of this album I have to ask, 'Is proficiency to be frowned upon?' It seems this album is the antithesis of the DIY noise/dance music tide of things, and it seems to be suffering in the reviews for it.
While I do agree that this album isn't one to crack your brain open and dump in starshine, I do think it should be applauded as top craftsmanship. It's complexities have been buried by an expert hand. I think Ryce's review most clearly touches on this, as compared to the other reviews I've read.

Phototype is like Kalkbrenner meets Burial, very funny.
Good rating 4/5.

| #69 / Fri, 27 Jul 12 19:22 (Edited: 27 Jul 12 19:31) 4 is perfectly fine. Gets weaker in the second half but the first half is boomin'! also "stony faced stare"? HAPPY SHED Posted by flynnad Anyone sum up whether it's more straight techno or not? Didn't feel The Traveller much. Is most of it in 4/4 this time?
Much (much!) more 4/4 this time, no abstract all-over-the-place-sketches, has a really nice flow.

| #75 / Fri, 27 Jul 12 21:50 This album nestles nicely within the Shed triad of albums. Rene never seems comfortable with where he is at, and it's a good thing. That anxiety leads to amazing progression, like we see here. Great work. Really intense tracks here.

| #77 / Sat, 28 Jul 12 01:03 yeah sure shed might have jumped the shark a bit at this point the same way spanky and pierre had by 91 (progressive house ahoy!) but you know which shit from the last five years is still going to sound as fresh in twenty years as pierre and spanky do today? SHED.

| #79 / Sat, 28 Jul 12 10:28 I see this as the perfect hybrid of his two previous albums. You got some killer techno, but you also got those fresh and crazy sounds that only Shed can bring to you. Techno album of the year for sure, although I'll wait to see what Function on Frozen Border could sound like René Pawlowitz > René Higuita

| #82 / Sat, 28 Jul 12 21:24 Hardly a 'rote exercise'. This album is another sonic masterpiece! (I'd put 'Shedding the Past' up there as well). 5 stars for sure. And can we PLEASE retire that ridiculous and lazy journalistic trope 'bangers'? Shudders.....this term needs to be buried! Long live Shed!

| #90 / Tue, 31 Jul 12 11:36 A really really good album. The sound design is impeccable, and although you couldn't call the album groundbreaking, it has many twists and turns which make up for an exciting listen and a few tracks wreck absolute havoc on the dancefloor.

I absolutely agree. This is an inspired, impeccably produced album. While we may squabble over whether Shed is or isn't covering brand new ground, or about which of his albums (or monikers) works best, all of his releases have displayed an artistry unmatched in contemporary techno. I particularly appreciate the way he throws seemingly disparate elements together with harmonious results, the overall restlessness of his sound and the way that all the albums seem to somehow reference each other. This is aural heaven!

| #100 / Tue, 13 Nov 12 11:14 I had the good fortune to catch Shed play plenty of cuts off this at the Warehouse Project last Friday. Most of it kills. 'Ride On' murders. That snare explodes like a dum-dum in the head.
