A close friend of mine made me copies of the Razormaid comps about 9 years ago. I have to go back and revisit them now.

Killer MP3 collection dude.

Levon Vincent is that kind of DJ that is successful, and you're happy about it. #Humility

In Vincent we trust.

great interview . it's about time we go back to talking about changing the music scene for the better and to realize that music is the power !!! we can change the world with music and it is time we aspire to a positive change instead of the culture of greed and screwing people over . !!!! go Levon !!!! you inspire me everyday !!!

Lb
He should be the kind of inspiration that aspiring DJs these days look to. And I mean as a whole - attitude, work ethic, musicality, belief, etc.

I hope you achieve Levon, huge respect.

I think Levon has already left his mark to be honest. His records never leave rotation at my house. I like his stance on remixing.. although his mix of 'Umlaut 2' is jaw dropping..

Total respect to Mr Vincent. He remains so humble when he probably kickstarted the whole NYC deep house scene again...

Great interview.

Have to agree, his Party People Clap remix was awesome. In fact every single track on that release was the shit.

Big up Levon, keep it coming.

intense read. Agree though with the fact you can't help but want him to be successful.

Saw him play last September and been really wanting to see him play again since then. I'm not a DJ spectator but he is quite entertaining to watch.

This man is my dance music God, everything he stands for, musically and attitude-wise is first class and he is a nice guy to boot. I had the pleasure to meet him recently and I told him how much of an influence he was on my dance music tastes and he was genuinely humbled and flattered.

I have never heard an artist that has taken all the best parts of all the dance music I have loved over my lifetime and nailed it perfectly into his own sound as Levon has.

Much love and respect

great interview, i love his insight. the quote below definitely will stick with me

"This isn't the hip-hop industry. There aren't millions of dollars on the table. So mostly the people love either the lifestyle or the music. Some people emphasize one or the other too much, but it should be even. You're supposed to party and educate. It's supposed to be half and half. It's supposed to be fun and musically educating, it's not supposed to be exclusively one or the other. "

What a great article, and definitely a very likeable bloke.
I've seen him tear it up in Fabric, and that recent compilation is pretty special too! (I am addicted to that Rainstorm II track)

compared to that Seth Troxler profile, you see the gap in that party + education equation revealed tremendously.

Inspiring interview, I really look up to this guy. His fabric mix is top notch, will stand the test of time no doubt.

Real deal, class, ace, top dawg here...pretty much everything all the others above said. Almost every bit of this interview is quotable and worthwhile.

Levon's my standard for professionalism and humble confidence for this "industry." For keeping such a low profile, the man has an army of us that can't help but spread the word. His music and the knowledge he drops with his sets (and words) really are similar to an evangelical movement, but without the nasty aspect of religion.

I don't mean to come off as some sort of rabid fan, but he earned my respect early on, and he continues to gain more-rather than lose it like so many artists do. I think all of us here know what he's saying about the scene, but hardly read/hear/discuss it except in private bitchfests with your homies...he's able to publicly, widely drop the truth without coming off as an ungrateful ass or condescending richboy trustafarian.

Fuckin' remixes. TRUTH. I'm always thinking 90% of these labels and remix releases are just rich kids trying to boost their labels' profile, established labels that are trying to hold on to relevancy, and the results usually bring down my respect for both the label (if I had any to start with) and the established artists that output some lackluster piece of shit for cash.

but at the same time, with the industry the way it is, and the small ass pie disproportionately going to low-talent/high-hype goofball "celebs" like Troxler and the paint-by-numbers bongo techno/tech-house, it's hard to pass up $600 for making one track.

Damn, fantastic interview. Got me riled up now!

those were both remixes for jus ed/ dj qu.. they're friends.

I think the comments here say it all really. I doubt you're going to come across many genuine fans of this style of music that don't wholeheartedly respect Levon and what he stands for.

Great interview, thanks.

Humbled. Not too sure about the remix thing but I get his point...its more a case of seperating the wheat from the chaff and maintaining dignity.

This level of integrity is rare in any industry. Strong words from an even stronger DJ.

I never read an interview so refreshingly candid and straight up :) Mad Respekt Levon - a waiter, bartender for 12 years that's amazing, evolving to be an icon in our modern time is simply iconic. Hope somedaY you will grace our shores and play in S.Africa :)

Question from RA: "Where does that come from? Because there is... I mean, you don't hear many artists saying it that baldly: "I want to be a success." There's a little bit of ego there.

Is that a pun? ;)

Great producer, great DJ, great guy.
