RA News
Little White Earbuds editor-in-chief Steve Mizek will launch a new label this month.

'My honest opinion is that there is no such thing as a US scene. There are a few people throwing parties and little pockets of creativity here and there, but we are far from having anything that could be called a scene. If there ever was such a thing it is long gone never to return'

Living just north of Chicago, and having witnessed the remnants of the second wave of Detroit/Chicago, this is a (very) sad but true statement.

Here's hoping for a brigher future.

Great record, but I 100% disagree with the comments about the American house and techno scene. Especially the underground shit that is on the comeup. Of course it isn't gonna be the way it is in Europe or the UK where there isn't so much physical distance between cities. But there's a good network going on that crosses substyles.

light-years ahead of you......

In this case, applying for a job at McDonald's and getting rejected. I felt like "Man, fuck this shit." The whole ordeal was a bit depressing, so I tried to convert those negative emotions into something positive.

Makes you think twice about those twats who post pictures of all the food they eat when they dj abroad...

The road of musical ashes, down and descent is always turned in the long run toward something positive..Best of luck and respect to Amir.

be the change u want to see in the world.

Yea no disrespect to LWE, Mizek or Chicago but those comments along w screendors, seem to sum up the fragmented, non-collaborative, slightly glum scene that has seemed to haunt Chicago's underground for a while now. I would 100% disagree with the statements about the current American house and techno scene as well. People need to quit focusing on Europe and all we don't have, and just friggin' do it and see what happens.

Hey..... I call 'em like I see 'em. If you believe different, prove me wrong with your actions, Yo. Don't get a network of producers who know each each other, and sometimes record on each other's labels confused with a scene, because that is not a scene. For those of you who find fault with my observations, please cite examples of how and why we have such a thriving scene in the U.S. Let's not confuse wishful thinking with fact. Consider this an open challenge to the whole U.S., to step it up and walk the talk. If you are already, great, keep it up and reach out to someone else to help them enrich their local area.
Oh yeah.......
"People need to quit focusing on Europe and all we don't have, and just friggin' do it and see what happens."
That's what I've been saying for years, but I'll do you one better.... Fuck waiting to see what happens. Move with purpose. Think about the outcome you want, and then figure out how to make it happen. Fuck leaving shit to chance.
Peace and Respect to you all.

Vanguard Sound!
love Thank everyone who commented positively about the music. It's nice to debate philosophy and all, but the Music is really what's up.

Vanguard Sound!
Music for sure is really whats up and this is a really strong release, but if you make bold statements generalizing the entire US scene on a forum like this, you should be prepared to accept reaction to them.

I do move and speak with purpose...from my own experience, as you do from yours. Nothing is left to chance, as it is all happening currently because I'm doing the best I can to make it happen. Thats what I'm saying...people are doing great things currently...right on to the challenge of stepping up as a whole scene, be the change you want to see in the world, right?

So what you are saying is reach out to help other scenes if they do not share the same feeling of what you speak of? I'm down with that, and I'll hit you up on the pm Amir.

Examples of fact, not wishful thinking >

As Communikey, we just threw our 5th edition of a successful 5 day festival in Boulder last week. Was not all house and techno, but featured some most definitely.
Check it out > communikey.us
Denver as a mid-sized market is bumping and collaborative, all kinds of music from beatnik, techno, house, disco, dub, IDM...we will have you out and you can see for yourself.

We have networks in healthy house and techno scenes with promoters, friends, fellow musicians/dj's not just political moves between producers (though we do produce together occasionally) across America...Santa Fe, San Francisco, LA, Seattle, Pittsburgh, NYC, some in the Chi, Cleveland, Detroit...Montreal and Toronto up North....there is positive stuff happening all over, that people work together to get done. I can see if you are not aware of a lot of it, then obviously you can say otherwise.

And I love Europe, have citizenship there...it's apples to oranges comparing the US to Europe with a lot of things, let alone electronic music.

Cheers man.

Amir Alexander - Gutter Flex cover
RA Review
Though he spent quite some time toiling in Chicago's house scene, the lush, sometimes melancholic synth work of Amir Alexander's music owes a whole lot to Detroit. "Gutter Flex" cements that apparent Motor City connection. Although it gallops at a brisk, housey shuffle of 125 BPM, the track's synth..
