Great interview, people can say what they will about Cross Town & co, but they are certainly deserving of all their sucess since it seems to have been earned through sheer determination and hard work. Not my favorite label, but it really sounds like Damien is in the business for all the right reasons and you could do a hell of lot worse as far as popular labels go. Say if Cross Town continued to grow like an unslayable hydra and somehow managed to kill off Ultra Records I would not be sad at all.

I did think it was funny when he started talking about lack of reviews of their records this year and the way the media works, and how he was trying to think out loud or pseudo-negotiate for a dedicated review section. I have to say that It does make sense as far as not reviewing bad tracks mainly because of the sheer number of releases that come out these days, a bad tune or album can simply fade into anonymity by not being reviewed and serves a punishment in its own way for substandard work. At the same time however I think that RA for the most part adheres to this, if you look at the reviews over the past couple years there have been a ton of albums with 4/5 ratings and almost all of them deservedly so. Still the critics and readership are like vampires, sharks, or zombies, in that from time to time need something to sink their teeth into Yawn .... because the taste for blood becomes overwhelming RRRRRRARAAAAAAAAHAAHAHAHAAHAH!

Nice insights and I really think he is on to something by saying that RA should try to focus energy on reviewing releases that are good rather than wasting time dissing ones that are not so great.

Defo one of the best in the series - loved that he spoke both about his journey and also actually gave some opinions on the scene today and RA itself... turning the tables on Todd - made for an intriguing listen and generated some really insightful discussion from both sides. Top draw.

In listening to his reflections on the industry, I took from this a sense of sustainability and community in the music business, which resounded in his discussion of Burning Man and the development of his label as it exists today. I do think this will be what carries the future of music- the sense of community- and we see that here in RA, as well as other media like Soundcloud or Facebook. People have a unique opportunity to connect to music in a new way, and it is a very exciting time! Great podcast!

I've been called a "fool" by Lazarus on Twitter before for not liking CR's output. Hey...maybe I'm just not one of the writers he "respects"!

Still, props to Damo and CR regardless...this was a fascinating listen too!

Enjoyed this and great to hear someones story of ups and downs in this industry. A guy who has lived and learned.. Only other comment is the piece about reviews. Personally magazines/press are a thing of the past and social media is the way forward to promote new sounds. Soundcloud CR/Facebook/Twitter/You Tube pages build up a following.

Interesting to know any stats of dance mags being sold..
