Christian Olofsson took his camera, Ryan Keeling his pen, to one of Europe's best festivals this past weekend, as Lyon's Nuits Sonores celebrated its tenth anniversary.

For me, it was not the best from a point of view of the audio live acts : I have had some deceptions (for instance Troy Pierce or the Kompakt Day except Panchanga and Sasha-Saschienne). But I keep a very good feeling of people, ambiance, the Down & out stage and the quality of the free event (Apero sonore notably). Furthermore, the secret stage (and especially the final show with the Agoria-Garnier-Brodinski team) was totally gorgeous.

I already make an appointment for the 11th edition!

The secret stage was indeed amazing, I'm always surprised to see how skilled Bordinski is when he plays techno in a large venue.

Other highlights included the back to back set between Caribou and Four Tet on Night 3 and a 3 hours set from SOULPHICTION and "DJ Koze unleashed and heroic" as they replaced Motor City Drum Ensemble at peak time at Transbordeur (thursday night). The latter set was one ecstatic moment where Koze took every chance to lead the crowd in the least expected area. I'm positive you don't often attend that kind of bollsy performance in France, Paris included.

Also, choosing a smaller venue than previous years for the main nights was a brilliant idea. Les Anciennes Usines Brossette felt much easier to wander across and the sound system was top-notch.

It's funny how people are really divided about the secret stage. I was personally disappointed! What a joke! The amount of times we've seen Agoria , Brodinksi, Garnier and Villalobos at the Nuits Sonores (or other events here in Lyon, Garnier did an all night long end of December for example), I mean come on, it was supposed to be a secret stage for the 10th anniversary, not just the usual line up! How boring can you get !?! I would have loved to have seen Maya Jane Coles on the secret stage or somebody like Richie Hawtins for instance. Or, as rumored, Kraftwerk!
Klock and Dettmann's set was the highlight of the festival for me. Really great fun, real generous guys. So glad, I didn't miss it!
