With just half a dozen 12” releases since their inception back in 2007, Ancient Methods (the label and act) have already placed a significant stamp on the picture of techno today. Using his long running experience as a resident DJ at Tresor Club Berlin, Ancient Methods began to produce in 2005, forging a sound that some have described as ‘pitch black techno war funk’. While not an anonymous project, like some may believe, Ancient Methods feel comfortable to be viewed just through their music, rather than through any additional data or manifesto that is often expected in today’s information hungry world.

Ancient Methods have worked closely with one of my favourite music blogs, known for it’s love of techno – MNML SSGS

boomkat’s description of ancient methods’ music perfectly sums up what you can expect from their ELECTRONIC EXPLORATIONS mix: ‘pitch black techno war funk’. just a warning. this mix is pretty fucking brutal. so be prepared, you have been warned… for me and I’m assuming the guys over at MNML SSGS, this is techno at its very best – raw and powerful, without sacrificing quality or care. (in the words of MNML SSGS themselves)”

Wow. No one else? Weird. Well, this is yet another tasty nugget from AM. Starts off a little, dare I say?, funky, then descends into the usual territory of destructive chaos. I must say, though, there seems to be a bit more low-end on this mix, as compared to previous AM mixes. All in all, an outstanding mix.

@ howsmusic .. yeah it does feel slightly softer at the beginning, but not for long ... brutality kicks in

They're just playing the field Chris, let them get it out of their system. Blinkin eck, that tracklist hurts just looking at it. I shall prepare to set my mind to 'mulch'.

the mix is actually much less heavy compared to their other efforts. i think their first mix is probably the most brutal.

that first mix they did for you is an absolute beast, right from the beggining it means business, one of the heaviest mixes I've heard.

That first mix was deadly. I cannot lie though, it was a bit too heavy for my age-marinated ears. I need to listen to it again with the benefit of a hardened soul. Only ten minutes into this one - cracking intro.

the first one is certainly not for the faint of heart... i'd say that is one of the most important mixes we've done. it has had more than 13,000 downloads. crazy...

my favourite is the last one they did for us 'some strings attached'. and the CDR version sounded brilliant. neel did an excellent job mastering it, which gave the whole mix an extra dimension.

this mix feels like a step further on from the 'some strings attached' one. has that more funky element to it too. looking forward to spending more time with it. another excellent contribution to one of the best podcast series online.

this mix was the only thing I listened to while in transit over the weekend - - 4 hours to Detroit and 4 hours back - - and still want more of it. Another outstanding effort that's original/unique enough to stand on its own.

'handmade blend' still prob my favorite - but I reserve the right to change that answer!

I'm gonna be a cuss here and say my favourite is the live recording they did for FACT at the Life festival in Ireland - an hour of hugely satisfying electro-tech stompalong. Am rather fond of all their mixes though. You realise how varied their tastes are when you listen to their previous and this mix is, as Chris says, a funky new string to their bow. Electronic Explorations has been quietly but with immense enthusiasm and good taste turning out quality music of eclecticism and invention for the last five years now. Good on ya, Rob!

By the by, I wonder how long it'll take RA to make this mix of the day, discarding this thread and linking straight to Soundcloud or somesuch. Not shit-stirring or anything, god forbid. *whistles whilst shuffling his feet*

Absolutely one of the best mixes so far in the 2012.!!

It represents all that there should be seen, heard in the veracity of techno: mixing skills, selection of tracks, it bursts of energy, substantially blend the very old and modern with lots of other juicy sounds and styles.

It's an true representative!!
Definitely highly arranged achievement!!
