also WK7 aswell as some old Errosmith/MMM stuff. I think some of the BC material also has not been available digitally previously.

Actually, all of BC´s releases have been available digitally, at least from Boomkat. It´s the Chain Reaction and associated labels material that has never come out digitally (and I don´t think it ever will).

| #19 / Mon, 04 Jun 12 23:42 This is great news. This is an impulse post, I haven't even checked yet, but I'm assuming they allow Americans download. That said, this has really made my day. I do browse HW all the time but I'm not a vinyl junkie anymore. I'm really excited to download there. Great job HW, you don't know how bad I've wanted a digital format!

| #25 / Tue, 05 Jun 12 02:04 I love vinyl but the whole "selling yourself to the devil" argument is just immature. Does allowing more people access to good music a bad thing? Does expanding the ways an institution that's been contributing so much and in so many ways to this culture, can make money, a bad thing? Grow the fuck up.

A music institution trying to survive in the real world. But what is there honestly to loose, if a track is made public on a .WAV file? People will still buy the vinyl. The sales of vinyls and mp3s have both gone up, in recent years. I think .WAV will kill off the CD format, vinyl will always exist because of nerds and audiophiles.

| #29 / Tue, 05 Jun 12 07:51 Godwins law does also apply on RA. As soon as Vinyl vs Digital gets stressed in this forums, discussion gets boring. Every argument must be produced a thousand times.

+ 1000000 The only conclusion I can derive from that attitude is that people who say stuff like that also have a problem with information, knowledge and culture being accessible to all. That they are more interested in the medium than the message, the content (the music, ffs!), is secondary. Fine by me, but just admit it then. Personally, I have always bought both, and it´s great that I have more choice. And choice is never a bad thing. Hardwax has done more for vinyl culture than most of these whiners will ever do, and guess what, some people who buy this stuff aren´t DJs and aren´t trying to impress anyone, they actually just love MUSIC.

DJ harvey once said that "selection will always trump mixing." mixing is a craft, you might not be able to teach a monkey to do it but you teach everyone but the most unmusical people to do it. instead, track selection is where it's at. about vinyl !! especially limited vinyl where only 250 copy were pressed for the world and you have one of them
if there's a good vinyl-only release, i go ahead and purchase it with the intention of digitizing. but everybody knows that those 100-500 copy, suuuper-limited pressings are made because they simply cannot sell any more than that. just calling it limited doesn't make it special. carnt get mp3 on a picture disc
that's a truism.

[a:rpia:r], Understand, Joy Orbison, STABLO etc. releases always sell out in a day. If they wanted, they could sell a lot more records than they do now. So... what were you saying again? Posted by dumdidum just calling it limited doesn't make it special.
With that i agree.

I betcha for each pressing that sells out quickly there are at least five which do not. Also, releases don't tend to sell out literally in a day (e.g., i know a record store which still has copies of Understand 003). But even if I don't agree 100%, you do have a point. Sometimes, small pressings sell out quickly. And if it happens, it is pretty much not in line with the ideals I have about our movement. Frequently, if there's a pressing where demand outpaces supply, the guys who get copies are the dealers, the re-sellers. And they then sell the vinyl for 40 or 100 bucks on Discogs. And, of course, not everybody can afford to pay 100 bucks for a 12". If that happens, digital distribution is a lot fairer. Everybody can buy the track for a buck or two. Supply is unlimited at that price. Maybe that's a reason to welcome that Hardwax has decided to distribute more stuff digitally.

| #48 / Tue, 05 Jun 12 20:40 This is the most disappointing news I've heard in a while, one of the world's most highly respected RECORD shops, prizing themselves on selling rare and high quality vinyl only releases, many many of which I own and collect. Now any old cunt can buy the mp3 version of some of my favourite limited and sought-after records. I can appreciate if this was a financially driven decision on Hard Wax's part, but vinyl heads will know precisely what I mean. They're called Hard WAX afterall. What a shame.

| #50 / Tue, 05 Jun 12 20:54 Well you still own the rare sought after vinyl plate which is still a collector's item and I'm sure you still will get your money's worth for it on discogs and the likes. What actually matters (the music on it) gets to be accessible by more people who now can enjoy these rare tunes as well. Isn't that great?
