Kind of curious why some of the RA.EX pics are grey/black yet others are red. Maybe I missed the explanation, but does anyone know?

All red pics are part of our Live RA Exchange series that we do at festivals around the world. This particular one was done at this year's Mutek in Montreal.

I honestly can't tell if this kid is so stupid that he seems brilliant or so brilliant that he seems stupid. Still on the fence about him.

I like his music, but can't stand his pompous attitude. He comes off as arrogant constantly in interviews and is really too into himself. Its unfortunate.

Of course he sounds arrogant. He's making music that he considers avant-garde and very un-club-like, which has everyone from this website, to DJ Magazine (hardly po-faced) to the UK broadsheets wetting themselves. He's doing a Masters at a famous US University. He speaks three languages. He's in danger of becoming over exposed. I hope he makes a record as good as El Bandido again, before he disappears up his own crack. I joke. Still - the hype is not of his own making, as his early records are really that good. On balance however, I believe that he'd still have the same college boy / high-brow artistic mentality, if no-one but his school friends listened to his music. What else would you expect from someone that was bought a copy of "The Au Harem D'Archimede" by his Dad in a Chilean record shop aged 14. It's in the blood...

I wonder if he will really conquer king's landing and kill joffrey....

Yup, this fella's so overrated, can't really stand him or his music. I tried to like him for a little last year when everyone had their head up his arse, and it appears that they still do to some extent - not happening.

Not a big fan of his music either. I also do not get the hype, but in this exchange he didn't sound arrogant at all. Haters gonna hate...

There are many talented artists out there and arguably better than Nico that I'd rather give my support to. Sure he is talented and all, not denying this but I feel better supporting someone who has a good personality.

Lovely interview, sounds like a good dude.

I don't think Jaar comes off as arrogant or pompous at all in this interview. He is however very serious about what he does, which can rub people up the wrong way. The fact that he cannot explain his ideas so well in words is only because he is so young still. You only have to watch the RBMA lectures with people like Carsten Nicolai or Terre Thaemlitz (who are both more or less in their 40s) to realise this is the sort of artist Jaar could very well be in the future, and is currently caught between two stools. If his music wasn't so pop-orientated or dance-floor friendly, there wouldn't be any of this animosity.

As for me Nicolas Jaar is one of the most inspiring artists around. He's definetely to watch.
One of his songs is "Don't believe the hype". So he wants to stay calm, focus merely on the music. All music he creates is brilliant, in my opinion.

he is genuine in his responses and he knows he has talent to make original, interesting and sometimes outstanding music. this shouldn't qualify him to be arrogant. he recognizes it, that's all.

i actually enjoy listening to him ramble about these ideas that are so clear to him but difficult to put into words. he has a way of talking, picking slowly his words, that makes it quite fascinating.
there was another interview of him, made by the drone, where at some point he explained why he chose the title "space is only noise" and it was the same thing, it was obvious that what he said made perfectly sense to him but it was just unclear and abstract. you do understand what he says but he doesn't do it in the most obvious way. i'm not sure if i'm making sense but yeah, i almost find it... touching.
and i don't think that he's the most humble person ever but he doesn't come off as very arrogant to me. i sound very mushy don't i? hah.

I had the opportunity to work with him on an event he played and he is definelly NOT arrogant or pompous. Such a talented, subtle and real nice person. Keep going, Nico
