seriously. Fucking embarrassing. Though in the writer's defense, Avicii provided the extensive info on the "device" in question.

| #8 / Fri, 15 Jun 12 08:32 I find it pretty interesting (and encouraging) that a rock critic at a mainstream publication like the WSJ would actually come out and argue that the current wave of commercial "EDM" is shit. Certainly a more provocative position than, say, Rolling Stone has taken in its constant fellating of SHM.

| #10 / Fri, 15 Jun 12 10:05 I think electronic mucis is very strong, I find so many great tracks and albums as ever. And that there is the dumb edge of the coin: it's old news. There always have been, just think of 2 Unlimited in the 90s, what did they have in common with for example Aphex Twin? Just as much as David Guetta has in common with Carl Cox. Just let the teenagers also have fun and enjoy and they will realise.

| #14 / Fri, 15 Jun 12 12:10 Being one who remembers L.A. Style, t-99, Smart-E's, Rotterdam Termination Source and the like as new releases. No. Someone is being a little too easy on the music and forgetting how awful some of it was when the novelty and rush wore off.

| #15 / Fri, 15 Jun 12 13:02 The fluro masses in Detroit and the level of general dickheadedness behind the decks in Miami, convinced me that its heading in that direction; with commerciality comes vanity and sadly ignorance. We should all be either writing a thesis on atonal phrasing, listening to Internal Empire non-stop, or challenging our friends to name the entire UR back catalogue in chronological order, instead of having fun at parties. Down with this sort of thing.

Thank you for providing some much needed perspective. In the end everything will be fine and underground dance music will survive this EDM wave.

| #19 / Fri, 15 Jun 12 15:35 "If somebody said to me: Play 'The Time of My Life' by the Black Eyed Peas and throw your hands in the air, I couldn't do it," said Carl Cox, a veteran DJ and producer. "If you gave me $10 million, I couldn't do it."
And that's why we love him.

It's just a shame that it takes this kind of 'dumbing down' for them to deem electronic music worthy of comment.

| #22 / Fri, 15 Jun 12 16:35 ...just seems to reinforce what I perceive as mainstream America's disdain for electronic music. Comment on how shit the commercial stuff is and totally overlook the exciting stuff going on in the underground. QED electronic music is shit.

| #25 / Sun, 17 Jun 12 06:16 I mean, is the 909 not pretty basic as far as it goes? Compared to standard production tools in 2012 it obviously isn't nearly as complex as what most use.
Also I found it interesting that the WSJ was able to put out an article so nuanced about the differences between underground and mainstream electronic music. Why is this a bad thing?

| #28 / Mon, 18 Jun 12 14:17 Can anybody help me please? I'm tired of drum kits and drum machines, well anything that makes a sound really. It's so primitive. I'm looking for sound that stretches beyond sound as I find audio today is lacking originality. Anybody?
