Sometimes a mix that has very little in the way of expectations can be the one that causes the most surprises, so you never know with this one.
Big problem for Tanzmann is the huge shadow being cast over this by Klock's 66 mix.

Also, not that he shouldn't or anything, but I find it a bit odd that he'd pick a track that is so-closely linked to another commercially available mix - "Not Listening" by MJC. A track she put together specifically for her DJ-Kicks edition. Mind you it is a decent track I suppose.

Personally, Matthias should have done one of these way back ... can't wait to hear it none the less!

Somehow I don't think someone like Tanzmann, who has been around for as long as he has, doing what he does, was scouring the net looking through new compilations to see if his tracklist clashed with anyone elses.

Already i can see here that this cd has some negative press; what exactly do you expect? the fabric series hasnt presented anything remotely out of the ordinary in years! And if folk are waiting to be blown away by Klock on 66 i wouldnt hold your breathe.

Yeah I'm all for Tanzmann picking whatever music he wants for gis mix, it was just that the MJC track was made specifically for a mix CD, rather than just being a track she picked for her mix. No big deal though, just something that struck me when I saw the tracklist.
Looking forward to hearing what Tanzmann does with this mix, have enjoyed stuff he's done before...

Don't see why itunes is needed anyway. One of the big draws of the fabric series is the lovely artwork it comes with. And don't fabric sell them digitally through their own website anyway?

Dunno about that.. in general i never really understood why someone would pay for a mix cd when hundreds of new mixes are available for free every week anyway. Having said that i thought Dave Clarke's Fabric Mix was exceptional and that's coming from someone that's not really a techno head

why would u buy it from itunes, i know that its cheaper than beatport but think it will came at the same price or cheaper buying directly from fabric's website, and if u clever enough just like myself get FF membership and get it sooner and literally speaking for £0.

Becuase DJs don't spend much longer than a couple of hours on a plane flight for a free podcast mix.

ahem, what Fabric states about iTunes is false. We released a compilation where the mixed file was available with album purchase only but cooperated with another label that sold the mix as a single track.

Yes, this doesn't seem true.
Apparat's DJ-Kicks mix, Get Lost 4 mixed by Damian Lazarus, Fear of a Silver Planet, mixed by James Holden, and his DJ-Kicks are all available "mixed-tracks only".

That's 4 releases I own across 3 labels, so it's clearly possible to get iTunes content licensed this way.

Something I'm interested in: if the iTunes releases will include unmixed versions of the tracks, can I expect them to be available on the digital download versions on the FabricFirst site? Availability of unmixed tracks is one reason I tend to use iTunes.

Tech-house and Techno mixes can be very dry and linear; if not executed with finese and soul. This is an example of that.

got this as a fabric member... don't hold out much hopes for it though. Tbh, he bored the arse off me when i saw him at fabric one time. Just not my cup of tea really.

i really like moon harbour and tanzmann...personally i look forward to mixes that are not bass music or monochrome techno......i dont care if its not cool..i like it

His remix of Silicone Soul - 'Right On, Right On' that appears on this mix has to be one of the most pointless and nondescript ever.

This must be one of the most boring fabrics to date. Can't fault the mixing or anything like that but lacks any sort of particularly memorable moments. Instantly forgettable. Bring on Ben Klock.

Haven't heard, but it does look almost too safe to be interesting. Klock should be a welcomed addition, indeed

Decent tunes and flow, but it's all a little too nondescript/functional. Guy Gerber's was a tough act to follow though.

I thought the mix was pretty good.

Don't understand all the raving about 63 though. I'm a fan of Levon Vincent but a lot of his tracks on the mix didn't do it for me. Joey Anderson's and Fred P's (the last one) were the strongest for me. Didn't enjoy 64 but didn't expect to.

I'm clearly out of touch though. My opinion differs from the majority of Fabric mix reviews on RA (Shakleton, Omar S, Ricardo, DJ T, Jay Haze etc.)

Anyways, roll on Ben Klock!

I will give a try with this one. I like Tanzmann and tracklist don't look bad. We'll see.

Not impressed but didn't expect to be.. far too dry for my taste

Listening to Tanzmann's mix feels like counting sheep for 73 minutes or so. I'm a fan of the Clockwork track with the moonlit-tinged piano dissonance, and the recent MJC cut, with its slick percussion, but the rest feels pretty bland to me.

So psyched for Ben Klock. Anyone found a tracklisting for the release yet?

Levon Vincent's justifiably receives a lot of praise. It was different, original, and most importantly, funky/danceable. Too many snoozefest mixes - it sounds like this one is one of them - so Vincent's Fabric 63 definitely stood out.

I thought Gerber's 64 is slightly overrated, it's not that great, but it's not bad either. If all of the tracks on the album matched "The Golden Sun and the Silver Moon" that might have been a different story.

Fabric 62 with DJ Sneak was great. But no one ever talks about it, I guess because it strays too far from the techno/tech house demographic that RA's fanbase is.

sounds monotonous at the start but improves as the mix goes on. Better than 2.5 though

Well that brilliantly summarizing sentence should tell you how monotone the mix is.

I guess I don't get dance music. I thought this was a 4.5 star mix, while despite multiple attempts, I have only been able to get through Levon Vincent's mix once; I find it to be incredibly taxing to get through. Which is ironic because I love LV's productions, and I had never even heard of this guy before. I guess this is just my kind of house. I'm so glad that I listened to this before I read any reviews.

If I had to rate my enjoyment of the label's output so far this year it would be:

With tracks like these, I would expect a good 18-20 in this mix...but he only puts in 13, which seems pretty damn lazy to me. This whole mix reeks of an afterthought.

So sick of this boring as fuck deep vneck bongo boy european traktor dj bullshit. Not a knock against vnecks, bongo boys, europeans, or traktor individually...but combine them all, and you get Adam Beyer putting me to sleep at Movement or Mathias Tanzmann putting us all to sleep...always. Why is this guy even on Fabric's radar?
