A rare interview with one of electronic music's most intriguing figures.

Interesting listen. I like the fact that his parents had a lot to do with his progression within music and let him hold parties in the family basement! He lost me a bit when he went off track about the languages etc, but I get what he was trying to say. I do wish he had let Todd finish his questions before answering though.

He is the Peter Pan of electronic music.

How did RA find him coherent/soberish for enough time to conduct an interview?

It's funny that a guy who is obsessed with sound is too close to the microphone. But, perhaps not.

@ danzig : I think they are referring to "plosives" as they are known in linguistics - basically sounds that are emanated with a puff of air from the mouth like the "p" in popsicle or popcorn. This puff of air can overload the mic a bit and cause distortion. Usually this is prevented with a pop filter on a microphone, a low cut filter, increased distance from the subject, or all three.

Any interview with Ricardo is always going to be interesting and I enjoyed a fair part of this one.. but my word does he like to waffle on at times!

I love this interview. The best I ever heard from any dj. An excellent reminder why we are here (on this earth and in the clubbing scene). Ricardo Villalobos deserves a Nobel Prize for peace because of the unity and empowerment he continuously recreates through his music and his humanitarian position.
Thank you Ricardo, Todd & RA!

Yeah, I thought popping e's would be more of a concern than popping p's.

Please lets not cheapen that award further by giving it to Ricardo, it was already bad enough when they gave it to Obama. Its supposed to be given to people like Martin Luther King Jr. not people who throw lots of parties and make records.

For sure, it reminds me of the Real Scenes:Berlin video where Dimitri Hegemann talked about Tresor providing a place for people to escape pressure and competition of normal life.

Anyone who want's to see Ricardo & Zip play back to back should probably head to Leeds for the August bank holiday, they will both be playing extended solo sets also. Full details in the link...

"We all belong together, you know.. and this is what music is able to show, that..we're all coming from the same culture, we all love each other, we dont have problems with each other. Its only a political and economical system that makes you believe you have problems with these or that person, but the reality - and the music shows it - is that we all belong together and we all come from the same culture.
This is the sad thing when you see, then, suddenly 'yeahh this guy is really dangerous, he wants to kill us all... ' THIS IS BULLSHIT!!"

as unique as his sound

As eccentric as Ricardo is, he is undoubtedly the most talented artist in the sphere. His unique philosophies make him a fascinating interview. I only wish he were asked about Narod Niki and Ibiza.

Oh. And come to New York soon.

A pain in the ass to listen to the first 20minutes.

Ricardo is a great musician but he speaks total bullshit.

He just needs money to live his fucked up lifestyle.
