Its 160 kbps, which is an insult to any music let alone a set like this, wish RA would give at least 320 kbps. Would love to hear a lossless of this.

sound quality on this is pretty poor - i had to turn my ipod almost all the way up - which always freaks me out.

It is not mastered into the red zone and beyond the way many mixes are and thus sounds less loud. It is a shame that such care is effectively ignored by shoe-horning the result into a low resolution sound-file. Could Mr Rrose supply a 320kbps file that does this fine mix justice, I wonder?

a HQ mix would be really appreciated. I believe this is one thing RA should look into - providing at least 320kbps mixes, since we're not living in the early '00s any more and everyone has more than enough bandwidth As for the mix itself - top notch.

i guess. i just noticed that the volume sounded lower than many other mixes that i have on my ipod - many from artists i assume know better than to "master into the redzone and beyond", as you put it.

other than that, i cranked it up inside good headphones this afternoon, and thoroughly enjoyed it.

it would be twice as enjoyable if i'd listened with proper audio quality. i mean, come on - this is etherial, psychedelic techno we're discussing here - not fucking iron & wine. why take that crystal-sheen off?

anyhow - proper mix. i'm hoping a better version gets posted at some point.

I'm very surprised by how much I enjoyed this. A real journey, albeit a very dark one. Felt like I was flying over a post apocalyptic wasteland, encountering scene after scene of desolation and despair, but it was enjoyable coz it took me away, just like a great book/movie can. The mix never gets bogged down in over-repetition like so many mixes do, it's constantly evolving and evoking moods, scenes, emotions. Absolutely brilliant, probably the most engaging podcast I've heard here, very hard to switch off once you're on the trip.

Is Rrose just one producer? I saw him/them very briefly warming up for Jeff Mills and it looks like there were two if not three people orchestrating a live show.

oh come on, leave it be. i can understand the want for something better than 160 kbps, maybe a v0. the fact is that nobody can (aurally) tell the difference between a wav and a well encoded v0 mp3.

The music IS the bitrate!! Don't you understand how it works? An MP3 is LOSSY, it looses quality, I have over the years spent a fortune on audio equipment and headphones, a real good set up, so i want the sound coming out to be high quality, not shitty mp3's. What are you listening on? an ipod?

seriously: the point i was making was that if you couldn't SEE the bitrate, if your computer's playback forced it to be invisible, then you would be happier listening to the music because this is all you would have to focus on. you wouldn't have this psycho acoustic enhancement (in the case of lossless) or degradation of your enjoyment of the music. i agree that 160 kbps seems low. i'm arguing that putting in on this mental quality scale of "320=best" -> "128=worst" is insincere.

you can't disagree with this. like i said it's a scientific fact that a well encoded v0 mp3 (by "well encoded" i mean an encoder written sometime in the last 4 or so years) is perceived by EVERYONE to be as good as a lossless audio file.

here's a short list of things i'd worry about a little more than the bit rate with any mix:

- does the mix utilize just wav/lossless files and transcode at the end?
- was a proper warp mode used in ableton ie repitch?
- was a good EQ was being used? (i hope not the shit ableton EQ 3)

of course we can trust rrose on this: they're a brilliant producer. i'm using the above to show that there are elements earlier on in the mix that will degrade the sound quality much more than a simple bit rate. i'd rather have a v0 mix done with repitch warp mode than a lossless done with "beats" or "complex"

srsly RA you post some nice podcasts but go for v0/320 now. Like 160 kbps is really taking out some magic of the music, were almost down to the box-feeling of 128 kbps. You just need a mp3-player made in the last five years and >10€ phones to notice the differenace. On a hi-fi system it's ridicoulous.

It's 2012, we can afford those extra 40 megabytes.

A week late but this was pretty awesome. That Kassem Mosse track towards the end is immense. Looking forward to hearing the high quality version
